The FCC Has Repealed Net Neutrality

I will spend a $100 extra a month to setup a Virtual Server and stream everything to my house via HTTPS just to bypass any shit Internet Providers try to do because of this. Grrr.

Drain the swamp................... and turn it into sewage...........

The problem is lobbying and "campaign contribution" kind of shit.
if we make lobbying illegal, we will not have any of this.

No, they'll still have it, you just wouldn't see it.

Companies now control the internet, and there's no way to stop them. The Federal Communications Commission voted on Thursday to eliminate its power to ensure net neutrality, effectively paving the way for internet providers to begin charging companies and consumers for faster internet access.

Led by Chairman Ajit Pai, the Federal Communications Commission and its two other GOP members on Thursday followed through on a promise to repeal the government's 2015 net neutrality rules, which sought to force Internet providers to treat all online services, large and small, equally. The agency also went a step further, rejecting much of its own authority over broadband in a bid to stymie future FCC officials who might seek to regulate providers.

Umm they always have controlled the internet are you kidding me?

You guys act like the world is going to end. YouTube and Google and Amazon and etc... already regulate what Information you see. What comes up in searches, meta data, political ideology they dont agree with is full censored. Y'all act like this wasn't happening.

This is good news because now the FCC knows that this will force Congress to finally legislate on what the Internet is. The FCC has no constitutional authority to legislate and the net neutrality boondoggle was an impossible monster and it was loaded with backdoor fluff that in time will enable future admins and communist/socialist ideologues to completely dictate the internet through the hidden powers that so called act preserved for later use.

As a general statement...
You guys need to ACTUALLY read the actual Net Neutrality act to understand. It's like Pelosi said Obama's Insurance company written unaffordable bankrupt the nation healthcare act... "You got to pass the bill to see what's in it". Yes Obamacare was written by the Insurance Lobby. Net N. Was written by the big mega ISPs.

All anyone here has shown is that what they know about net neutrality is nothing more than the regurgitated social media talking points.

We're you guys not pissed when Obama just handed over ICANN to the EU? But no one here probably even k ow that America doesnt even control the Internet anymore. It was handed to the EU, the most socialist control oligarchy on the planet. Not there is some real uninformed emotions rolling on here right now.

My jaw is agape at all the "free market conservatives" cheering this sack of horseshit. The free market works when there's competition. ISPs have little to no competition.

If you've ever taken Econ-101, you'd understand instantly why this is a bad deal.

So then how was Net Neutrality going to help? Go read the bill then come back and comment. No talking points please.

If I want to buy a gun through Google shopping. I CANT because they have censored completely my ability to do such process even though it's perfectly legal to use an FFL transfer.

Why are conservatives having thier videos pulled from youtube because the videos go against liberal snowflake ideaology? Net Neutrality does nothing to prevent censorship and control of what data your allowed to see. Its a fucking joke.

I honestly don't know why you blame either side. This shit would of past no matter which side controlled the government. All elections do is let corporation know who to make the check out too.

Must be hard work to stay this clueless.

Point one, net neutrality is not about censorship of content. Pai and other Republican cronies have twisted the narrative to this end. It's about ISPs taking money from or charging fees to content providers for the privilege of prioritized content delivery to customers.

But, you're right about me not having read the full bill. I'll see you in about 400 pages.

Uhhh.. now you're what.. just making up shit to sound superior?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICANN

ICANN is a private organization as of 10/1/2016. It was never moved to the EU. Perhaps you are thinking of the regional distributors of top level IPv4 addresses that were assigned out by ICANN in February of 2011?

Glass houses man. Glass houses.

Shifts more economic power from the rust belt to places with multi/municipal connectivity options like Cali and such. Guess my moving from West Virginia was a good idea this year, but I feel for the friends I'm leaving behind that have to deal with this.

Then it won't matter if Comsuck (or equivalent in your area) decides to throttle this, or charge more for that. Just say "FUCK YOU!" and go with a competitor.

I suppose, if there was a fucking decent competitor.

Nope. NN does not stop them from charging edge providers to terminate data, in fact Title II protects their ability to charge a fee as a forced rate of zero is not legal. But people would have to read and understand the regulations first and people would rather spout Facebook propaganda.

Trump's FCC Has Repealed Net Neutrality. Everyone should have seen it coming after the GOP sold out your internet privacy rights earlier this year.

Let's be realistic for a moment. This is not about Trump, nor the GOP. I was watching Saving Capitalism the other day on Amazon Prime (it's free atm), and Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor for President Clinton, brought up how when the top 1% wants a bill passed, it's passed about 60% of the time, regardless of public opinion, and when the majority of the public wants a bill to pass that goes against corporate interests, it's only passed about 30% of the time, even when public opinion is above 90% approval rating of a bill. This is just the way the system is, and it's both parties who are at fault here. (Now, to be fair, I don't know where he got those statistics, as it doesn't include sources in the movie, but perhaps the book does have the sources, but I haven't read it.)

All this panic and "end of the internet as we know it" is very comical. You do realize that for the past two decades the internet grew and exploded all over the world "as we know it" without any government interference right? All this does it puts it back that way and gets the governments nose out of it again, like it was, and worked, and grew, for two decades. This overreaction is beyond asinine. Ya'll hyperventilating look stupid.

So... we can trust the big ISPs not to pick winners and losers in the content market, then?

If so, what's changed since Comcast started to strangle Netflix for more cash in order to maintain the quality of their service?

Because an unregulated automotive industry was great for America long term? Nope...

Because an unregulated Medical industry is great for America long term? Nope...

Because unregulated phone was great for America long term? Nope...

Because unregulated food services were great for America? Nope...

You know at this point I'm struggling a bit to find something unregulated that has proven to be good for America long term. Heck even self regulation helps when they actually do it. (Look at the Rating system of movies and video games.)

So what do you have... I want to hear your amazing success cases of greed not trumping what is good for the people. I hope you have a few that are not easily thrown away.

Well for one Netflix is now bundled on all the Comcast set top boxes.

Where do you think the Internet came from? Milton Freidman's bunghole?

Just curious.

We have the same stand in my country with regards to regulation (well the apparent non-existence), and I think it really is not ensuring fare competitions for our telcos. (we have mediocre plans across most service providers).

At least my state's representative sold out for a lot of money. A lot of them sold out for less than $20K. Guys like that you can buy lots of votes from.

can we please deregulate our water supply? I'm tired of having clean water. I want to pay for cleaner water.
and who needs all that water treatment baloney up front. People evolved fine drinking from streams.

can we also deregulate waste water? Who needs to pay for treatment of our crap. It's good for the environment.

This way we can lower our water and sewage bill.

Geez, time to simplify our lives. Get rid of all traffic lights while your at it.

What are you babbling on about?

Please explain.

To me this is like charging extra for the salmon roll at an all you can eat sushi bar. Big frickin deal.

You guys rip on "big corporations" but facebook and others are big corporations too.

They could make this an ala carte system and simply have a lower base cost for those that do not need any of the high bandidth sites.
