The 15 Most Hated Companies in America

So at best you are saying they are standing still in this department while the competition has been improving by leaps and bounds.

Yes that's what I am saying. Toyota has always been reliable and continues to be so. Almost all the competition seems to have issues pop up right after the warranty runs out. Some big some small, but problems nevertheless. The Americans and Koreans are learning this from the Japanese and improve a lot. The Europeans on the other hand are stuck in their old ways, POS cars. Except Mercedes and Volvo that have always made quality cars.

Nope, it wasn't before or after any big event. And, I know they are trying to take some steps but acting as if they don't believe the customer doesn't say a whole lot for a good client-business relationship.

And I'm breathing a sigh of relief. Was anyone else worried that their company made the list? ;)

*waits for zenops to reply and say why he was sued by dell*

same here!

i honestly don't think toyota will ever fully recover from this past year. i know i used to love their cars, but then i was into their OLDER cars. still want a late '80s supra to build up...

surprisingly hyundai has been making big grabs for the marketshare last couple years...and succeeding.

How the fuck did Comcast escape that list. I don't know a single person that likes Comcast.

Whilst returning my cable box and modem this last Tues at my local Comcrap office, within 30 days of activation because the service for TV was without a doubt worse than two year olds drawing family portraits. There were three people in front of me returning or exchanging their boxes and giving the two women behind the counter a piece of their mind. It was really bad. And as mad as I was for having spent over 7 hrs on the phone and chat with these morons, these other people were even madder.

I went with Directv, which I had for years before until they started fucking me hard and no reach around but the quality is far superior and I haven't had an issue.

pgwalsh beat me to it I was gonna say how does Comcast not make this list.

The people who do like Comcast will probably not be found on [H].

Well, now you know someone who likes Comcast or is at least indifferent pgwalsh. Those who hate comcast have likely never experienced the far far worse service providers out there like the one I am currently stuck with (Charter, oh look charter was the absolute worst on the list, and Dish network). So in comparison Comcast since i had them for three years without a single issue were honestly great. Now this was before their shitty download cap which I agree is complete garbage.

That all said, this list in general does not surprise me. That my cable company who i have ranted about for years got called out as the absolute worst company is no shocker.

So basically if you are a big company, you will be on the list. The bigger you are, the less you care about where your money comes from.

The only issue that I have with Toyota is that some of their cars seem a bit over-priced. But, I guess that's not too big of a deal.

My Father has a Camry and a Rav-4 and I drive a Mercedes Benz. I love all three equally.

Alot of times that the dealer that makes the price so high. but yes I agree.

I don't know how they calculate these numbers, but I have 2009 Toyota and it is of the same quality and reliability that I have always experienced from Toyota over the years.

Ditto, My tundra takes a beating daily and has yet to let me down.

Notice that companies that sell expensive things aren't on the list? On the contrary, the companies that really do rip off their customers the most are the most admired, like Apple. Customers are happier to spend 50% more for 10% more service.

You haven't worked in Customer Service. I would say 25% of the people who return stuff to the Walmart I work at lie about it. Cases in point.

A). Man brings back a Wii. Doesn't have Wii Sports Resort in the box. Says his didn't come with it. Return denied. Half hour later shows up and says he "found" the game. Return granted.

B). Woman shows up with a coat that she says she bought last month (no receipt). It is a brand that Walmart hasn't carried in over a year, and the coat is dirty and ripped. Return denied. She says she went back to talk to associates in the clothing section who told her she could exchange it for a new one and brought the comparable one up. I went back and talked to the same people and they never saw her. Refund denied again.

C). Woman comes to the checkout with "holiday" items that are discounted 75% off. She says they were all in the Clearance section of the store with the other holiday items. Only half of them rung up with the discounted price. She fought with me for 45 minutes over every item in her cart. Finally, I just told the cashier to give her whatever she wants and get her out of there.

D). Woman says items were marked differently. I ask her to show me and I'll give her the price. She refuses to come (claiming she doesn't like walking though clothes), but her child volunteers to show me. There was no sign like she said. She claimed that one of the employees moved the sign.

And this is just in the past week (and I only work part time). Working in retail has caused me to distrust people. It's not any of you personally, it's just the job. Go easy on your retail friends.

Guess I've been lucky with Dell. I've had very few problems overall. When I get rid of servers, it's because that are too slow to be of use any more, not because they need repairs. Same with the desktops, I even have a few Dell P3 desktop hanging around the office that still work, although very slowly.

Did have a problem with the nvidia video cards on some of the laptops, but so did almost every other manufacture.

As for Toyota, this list is full of it. I currently own 2 Toyota's (actually the only 2 Toyota's I've ever bought) and they have been the most reliable and solid cars I have ever owned.
They reference JD Powers as the main reason Toyota is on the list, which explains why. JD Powers never seems to have anything good to say about Toyota. They should try looking at consumer reports for a less biased source.

I can't believe Chase isn't on the list.

I hate them with a passion.

Chase has been getting worse over the past year. Cutting cash back on my credit card, and now changing the deposit requirements on my checking account. I'd switch, but every other major bank is even worse...... However, I don't completely blame them. With all the new regulations congress passed last year, they can't overcharge people who mismanage thier money as much. That means the responsible people can no longer get a free ride.

I only keep an account there because they are everywhere, and access to my credit union is alot more limited.

Glad people here mentioned Comcast. Where are the chemical companies. You know, Monsanto is only the most distrusted/hated company in the world...

I think comcast/time warner didnt make the list because they are only in select areas and maybe they didnt have enough votes to make the list. I think television providers in general are pretty hated. They have both dish companies, att and a cable company.

Any such list that has DirecTV and not Comcast isn't remotely believable in my book. Comcast sucks balls, DirecTV is a saint by comparison.

I've read some consumer complaint websites and most complaints appear to be from idiots and a-holes. If this is the garbage that makes it to consumer complaint websites, I'm scare to think of what people at return desks have to put with with. I know there are the liars and professional thieves who abuse the return process.

Just for fun, I took a trip to consumercomplaints.com, for Best Buy. First complaint, the store refused to give a refund for a cracked disk, a bootleg copy of a game. Second complaint, the store refused to take back a printer that was bought over two months previously. Third complaint, I couldn't figure out what the person was complaining about, something about spending a lot of time on the phone trying to get an unidentified part for a CD-writer. Fourth complaint, still haven't gotten the rebate (was it through Best Buy?). Fifth complaint, bought a computer that didn't work (Best Buy brand of computer?), exchanged it and the next one didn't work, store took it to repair and and wouldn't provide a loaner, came back not working, "I don't have the money to send" it off again (huh?). The parade of idiocy goes on and on.

These moronic complaints are always embellished. The employees were rude. The person has spent lots of money at the store. The customer was humiliated. They had issues with their children (like that's the store's fault). Blah, blah, blah.

I still dislike SONY. They have been suffering for a few years since the rootkit incident and seem to have moved away from completely proprietary hardware like memory stik, so maybe they don't deserve to be on the list anymore. I did buy a PS3 just to have a Blu Ray player that also did Netflix, etc, for the bedroom that also had WiFi built in. I knew they were taking a loss on it! Lol.

My wife works in retail, cell phones and cameras, and I would say that 1 in 500 complaints are real. The are all drama BS because the customer is a dumbass.

. Except Mercedes and Volvo that have always made quality cars.

ffs..

you don't realize that neither mercedes nor volvo are really mercedes or volvo anymore.

Mercedes has been traded around like an old whore so many times I don't know who makes them now and the chinese make volvo. Neither are built anywhere near as good as they used to be.

i dunno about mcdonalds, they def have the best nuggets.

dude, those nuggets only contain about 10% chicken....

Monsanto is probably the most evil corporation in the world, yet did not even make the list. Go figure.

Umm... Mercedes partnered with Studebaker in 1958 to enter the American Market and then replaced them in 1966. Then the partnered with AMG in 1998 and were merged with DaimlerChrysler in 1999 and are currently Daimler AG only.

Volvo was sold in 1999 to Ford and then in 2010 to the Chinese.

I thought they both have gone downhill over the last 10-15 years but knowing many owners of these vehicles has proven otherwise.

My local Best Buy wasn't too bad. I used to go there when I needed a hard drive or monitor at 8pm on a Saturday. They were usually around $10 higher than Newegg. Unfortunately, when the Circuit City across the street from them went bankrupt, they had to raise all their prices by 20% for some reason....

good thing about matured markets is that competition is low, as long as your corporation is needed, if you lock step your prices with your competition, or kill any new competition, you will exist even if everyone hates you.

capitalism is great

Which goes ok in the short term, until either a) A smarter company rolls your company's senile caress into the grave, or you have to file bankruptcy because the last trogolodytes on the block finally say, "Lol, internet".

Competition is not like to spring up as quickly in a recession, but once the economy picks up, many companies will have to start reinventing themselves to keep up.

Yup, no one knows about this kind of stuff.

As far as the list, Toyota sounds strange, but beyond that..

For people complaining about Comcast, I'd bet you'd love Charter's customer service. My Charter story:

Story 1)

We a had a problem with the cable line strung across the road getting knocked down (maybe too-tall semi-trucks? wind?)...we live on a fairly major 5-lane highway. Every few months it would happen again. They had to get a police officer to block the road for 10 minutes to re-string the cable over the road (previous to this...no problems for a couple of years...I don't know what changed).

Third time, they said they wouldn't do it again and would have to drill and run a line under the road. They also wouldn't run a line along the road instead. They also wouldn't re-string the cable until the permanent fix was in place. I just had to wait. I asked when this would happen. They didn't know (had to go to supervisor). This kind of thing went on for days. No one would ever call me back, despite promises of callbacks. Never was allowed to talk to anyone local that knew what was going on. The only way I got any idea what was going on was running outside and asking a contractor that showed up to do measurements.

Never did get an ETA. One random day (and I was working nights...so they woke me up). A giant truck showed up, put massive ruts in my yard, with railroad ties under them, and drilled the cable line. Never did manage to get the railroad ties out...they are still there, under the grass. We had no cable or internet for about 2 months.

Story 2)

For about 18 months, we had random pixellization on random channels. Would make the audio drop out (annoying when watching TV). Sometimes it got so bad that half of the TV channels would go out for hours (normally in the afternoon). Contractor came out a few times, said they had complaints all over our road, but no one knew what was wrong. He thought maybe a water problem somewhere in the ground (it did tend to be worse after rainstorms) but apparently no one wanted to pay for surveying to figure it out.

Story 3)
Random disconnects in the middle of the night. "There's an outage in your area" they would admit (sometimes) or the automated response would admit. Great. Sucks especially when you're oncall. Sometimes 10 minutes. Sometimes 8 hours. Went on all summer...about 4 months. Once I finally got them to admit they were doing "server upgrades" in our area. Thanks for the notice, Charter.

Customer service that couldn't issue refunds older than 3 months. On that one, I just gave up. It was $40 but it wasn't worth fighting for.

Terrible, just terrible. My wife hates Charter more than any other company.

All of this said, service has improved a lot since the bankruptcy in '09. They must have been penny pinching.

And I'm breathing a sigh of relief. Was anyone else worried that their company made the list? ;)

You guys aren't bad at all. Why would you say that? I can't tell you the last time we lost power here in Akron.
