The 10980XE can do 5.1Ghz with standard water cooling as tested by Intel.

The 10980XE has some head room to OC unlike previous HEDT from Intel. You can get it to 5.1Ghz with standard water cooling. THis tells me I can push the 4.8Ghz Turbo Boost 3.0 to 5Ghz. I thinki 4.8Ghz is faster then a 5Ghz 9900k single core. Now you got 18 of those babies.. and 36 threads and what not.

All the 14nm Intel line that Intel promotes is about en of year destocking. They are preparing massive 10nm launch at the beginning of 2020 which will put at pity all their old 14nm line.
So wait a little bit and Intel will slash the prices on this 14nm line of products or you can get much better performance on their new 10nm line. Frankly, the 10980Xe has been proved in real life to be on par with the 3900X, is put to shame by the 3950X. So you pay double the price of AMD equivalent or better hardware and AM4 will live on Zen 3 when you can be sure than the X299 won't go on 10nm HEDT. I was impressed by the new Intel prices, when Intel decided to half them, but now, we can see why they did it and it's still not interesting.

Standard water cooling huh? Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Im not lying about this. I forgot the site I saw this at. The 10980XE is a good overclocker compared to 7xxx and 99xx ....... Core for Core at 4.8Ghz turbo boost compared to 9900k is just as fast as 9990k @ 5Ghz. Now imagine 18 of those. Sure 10nm will come out but they will be consumer chips. Plus whatever you buy something new is coming a year later. At one point you have to say fak it Im gonna upgarde now. Then 7nm will come out then what you still wait for 3nm ? Y aknow. Also dont believe in the Romanian benchmark site. They used the 10980XE @ 3Ghz while the AMD was at avg 4.1Ghz. The 10980XE @ 4.8Ghz will trash a 3950x ,, both overclocked. Stupid benchies are boolshit cuz they ran it at 3Ghz. This CPU will beat the 3950x but not at 3Ghz like the douchebags used to bench it with Turbo Boost AMD cores. This 10980XE will beat a 24 core TR3 ,,,,,,,, It will come close against the 32core TR3. Not 32 core however each core will be faster then AMD and what not.

Common sense tells anyone that a 3900x would not be on par with a 10980XE.

Wait for a reputable review before you state these things as fact...

Overclocked it won't but in standard mode that is the mode you should use your CPU it's on par. How much real power will an overclocked 10980XE at 5GHZ draw. 250, 300W, even more ? Not sure how the motherboard may support that.
And actually what happened is that the 9980 dropped at $1000 by Intel (not you local reseller) , and the 10980XE has been pulled from any announcement and we have to see what happens. Maybe only waiting for the 3950X and 3960X official announcements at AMD. If AMd drop their prices on the 3950X and 3900X and then put the 3960X at say $1000, Intel will have to drop the 10980Xe price by quite a bit and they don't want it to look it's because of AMD. That's supposition but maybe something else will come.

“Standard mode”. Yeah lock your cpu to that. Because

“standard mode that is the ”mode you should use your CPU it's on par.

    good one.

I mean 10980Xe and 3900X are on par if you don't overclock.

Intel won't have 10nm desktop anything in 2020. It will be 14++++ and then Intel 7nm.

Exactly, a smart guy finally...... That is 3Ghz vs AMD say 3.9 or 4.1Ghz of course its gonna be a tight race. But once you OC to 4.8Ghz it will trash the 3900 and 3950x and the TR3... It will be close with the TR3 32 core.

Why is no one correcting him on his IPC claims? A 10980 XE at 4.8 would not be faster than a 9900k at 5.0. In fact it is more likely to be the other way around.

A 14 core Skylake running at 5.0 ghz (9990xe) struggles against a 12 core 3900x, but an 18 core Skylake running at 4.8 ghz will 'trash' a 16 core 3950x.

    Yep, that makes sense.

If all you do is game a 9900k will last you years. The KS might be 5% faster OC vs OC best case.

I don’t expect anything interesting for at least a year or two.

The Intel all core and single core boost is higher than AMD's so your point is invalid, it isn't going to trash much unless you it under insane cooling and clock it to the moon, but then it is like taking a BMW M3 hotted up and putting it against a Audi R4 and being shocked. Of course then heat and power guzzling is going to be a major issue.

I don't think so. It's not going to happen without some black magic process refinements, which even for Intel would be a stretch at this point.

I havent come across a standard water cooler, which water cooling standard do you mean?
Is this a standard "Intel" water cooler of some form or something someone made up?
It would help to describe the standard.

This is what they said... It's not a rumor since Intel person posted this. Im sure it will go to 5Ghz with good cooling DRP4 or liquid cooling and what not.

I didnt suggest it is a rumour.
It is unclear what they mean.
It is vague and therefore unsubstantiated.

Aren't like 90% of all AIO's sold in the US made by ASETEK and basically all mostly the same regardless of brand on the packaging?

Thank you that is the answer I was looking for. I also believe the 10980XE at turbo boost 3.0 4.8Ghz will put the 3950x to shame..... Ok Im gonna wait until the 10980XE comes out and buy it ASAP also get a Gigabyte Aorus Master x299x board with 8 slots filled with 8GB RAM.

Well I can understand someone buying XYZ while been drunk, on an impulse, loyalty, etc... but his statement was beyond rationality..
I hope he was been sarcastic and understood that if 1+1 = 2, well 1 x 2 also equals to 0 ... You can't get better results using the same simply because you want to.

Trying the same thing over again and again hoping for a different outcome is pure madness. The first observation will somewhat scale to the new SKUs and will probably be even worse for Intel without exotic cooling.

Anyway, can't wait to read more replies... popcorn time.

All you fanboys are forgetting how much slower ring bus is. Its not a 18 core 9999kyzfc it's a 18 core old Xeon shitbox which is far higher latency and far lower IPC than anything else you're used to from Intel.
It's already looking 3900x ballpark... With more cores.
Your muh 5 gigahurtz ain't going to help here.

Actually isn't ring bus (1151 mainstream) faster than the mesh they use in the Xeons and HEDT parts? Hence why the mainstream 9900k is faster than a comparable HEDT part. Maybe I mixed that up though.

How can the 10980XE be slower then a 9980XE. The new Turbo Boost 3.0 takes it to 4.8Ghz . The 9980XE struggles with 4.4Ghz max 4.6Ghz. So how can it be slower and where you getting your information from ? Your dreaming if you think its a POS CPU. It is obviously newer 10th gen but you say it will be slower then a previoius gen is absurd.

I never said 9980XE...I said 9900k. Thanks for playing though.

Additionally, I was talking about the ring bus (mainstream) vs the mesh (HEDT) not clockspeeds. At identical clockspeeds, the mesh is slower in certain tasks (e.g. gaming).

The 10980XE can be OCed to 5.1Ghz with standard liquid cooling. Clock for Clock its tied with 9900k. Now imagine 10 more of those cores. :)

as much as I'm a intel fan , the 3900x and 9900k killed any chances for Intel Hedt to be useful. slower in gaming more expensive need more memory to fill slots , doesn't offer anything but to show you wasted a ton of money. I say this platform is as dead in the water as the terminator franchise is now
