Tesla Autopilot Update Now Rolling Out With New Semi-Autonomous Features

Tesla vehicles with second-generation Autopilot hardware installed should be getting an update today that includes brand-new safety features such as a collision warning system, as well as refinements to steering and other pre-existing, autonomous functions. In a related article, Musk reveals that Tesla hardware revisions will likely be delivered annually.

Among the changes are better navigation for Autosteer, the feature meant for use on roads with clearly visible lane markers, such as highways. Autosteer is now limited to speeds of 45mph and below, while traffic-aware cruise control (TACC), which makes small adjustments to the car’s speed based on the vehicle ahead, can be used up to speeds of 75mph. Other features include automatic lane changing for situations with slow-moving highway traffic. Tesla’s HW2 models are also getting the Forward Collision Warning (FCW) safety feature, which warns drivers with audio and visual alerts that the car will soon collide with an object. This is not to be confused with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), the feature that can automatically apply the brakes to avoid or reduce the impact of a collision, which is not part of this update.
 
Still calling it Autopilot, that's bothersome in so many ways.

Is it though? Autopilot in a lot of planes just brought the plane to a heading or altitude. It doesnt taxi, take-off, cruise, loiter, and land all by itself (not without the assistance of ground sensors).

That sounds exactly like what these early Tesla versions do. I think the problem is people don't understand the definition of autopilot.

An autopilot is a system used to control the trajectory of an aircraft without constant 'hands-on' control by a human operator being required.

Autopilot != Pilotless

Self Park and Summoned from garage and automatically change lanes= pilotless
You can't compare automotive and aircraft terminology, much less Teslas version of it.

Pilots are licensed and trained. Drivers are photographed and handed car keys.
With a big difference in responsibilities and knowledge between the two.
A pilot knows what autopilot means, a driver has no clue but thinks it means Autonomously Driven Vehicle and treats it as such.
Call it what it is, Adaptive Cruise Control with Convenience Features.
It would result in Zero confusion for the driver and less headache for Tesla.

Or just keep calling it auto-pilot and let the idiot drivers take responsibility for their own dumbassness. Tesla can call their tech whatever they damn well please as long as it's not copywrited/trademarked by another company. It's also not their responsibility to teach basic comprehension to wealthy idiots.

I'm guessing you think they shouldn't call their doors on the model-x "falcon wings"? Maybe somebody will drive off a cliff because they thought the car could fly?
