Ten Years Ago Today

I never had any real problems with the clip-style heatsinks. No scratched boards, and no broken chip dies. Anyone remember chip sockets before ZIF sockets came about? It was always fun removing a math coprocessor off a 386.
 
I miss having pins to allow your CPU to slide into, rather tan flat surfaces and the mobo has little copper "fins" that touch each surface pad which if you breathe too hard on them will bend

yeah, pretty sure that was the CPU manufacturers pawning the pin liability off on the MOBO outfits
