I'm looking for an RPG on the 360 to play, cause I haven't played an RPG since...ever.

I've narrowed it down to tales of vesperia and lost odyssey. I've heard from some LO gets slow and boring, and tales combat ruined the game for some. What do you guys recommend?

Tales of Vesperia hands down.

Everything in ToV is pretty much top notch, the only thing LO has a edge over ToV is storyline. I'm a fan of turn based RPGs so the combat in ToV isn't spoiling me any. I have a game file with almost 130 hours and its near the end of my 2nd play through since there is a retarded amount of stuff you can miss during the course of the game.

I said ToV all the way, but I admit I am a big fan of Tales series.....

Hmm from the several hours I've played from Tales, its a good game so far. Personally, I prefer Lost Odyssey because of the dreams and story. All I should say is, you will love Jansen's character if/when you play Lost Odyssey. Funniest character ever. The voice acting in both games are very well done. The music in LO is also very very good. Play both, if 1, maybe Lost Odyssey because its one of those epic RPGs(well to me at least :p)

The combat ruined ToV for them? Thats like one of the best parts imo. The fact that you can play each character and that they all have unique abilities and combos is awesome. I do agree that Lost Odyssey has a better story line. Both were two of the better RPGs on a short list of RPGs on the 360.

tales without looking back!! awsome game. lost was good but its not near as good as tov.

Having only 5 hours in each game I would say Tales.

LO has cool little small stories, but overall left me with an unexplainable bad taste in my mouth so I stopped playing. Probably had to do with the overwhelming felling that I was Playing Final Fantasy X with strange new people and story.

do both of these games use save points? I heard you could go on for hours without finding a save point in Lost Odyssey. This is kind of a turn off for me because I don't always have a ton of time to play, so if I want to hop on and play a little wouldn't my time be wasted if I can't save? I think this is what killed my interest in my last jrpg.

I wouldn't say hours for LO. Save points are fairly common in LO, and the game heals you when you load a save. TBH, I honestly had longer periods between saves in ToV than LO, given ToV has quite a few long puzzles.

The save points came pretty darn often for me in Lost Odyssey. Save points were pretty often in Tales of Vesperia as well. Kinda funny that you bring this up though. I don't know many people that get this picky about save point frequency when deciding on a game. Play the game and you can answer your own questions. Just know both are good.

I forgot to mention that although I prefer ToV over LO, the fact that you can change the voice-over language in LO is very cool and I wish more JRPGs had that option.

I thought Lost Odyssey was easily the superior game. Seems I'm in the minority here though. :)

I have no ongoing relationship with Tales games though... which probably explains it. ToV was the first one I've played.

aight so I decided on lost odyssey cause a friend played it and he said it was really good. Glad I made the choice, I'm about 3 hours into the game about to face the first boss, and so far it's been an amazing cinematic ride. I really like the ring and skill link system they made also. The first dream was really touching and well written. I tried the tales demo and the combat just wasn't for me, although I prefer non-random encounters.

just wish ppl named their vids on youtube differently lol. I was looking for a LO review, and then one had the title "the last boss: xxx" which is kind of a huge spoiler.

I miss good RPGs... I wish PS3 got a few good ones. :(
The PS3 has some very good strategy RPGs. But most people don't seem interested in those, for whatever reason.

Tales of Vesperia is getting an enhanced PS3 release in Japan, so there's some hope that the US might see it someday.

My vote is for Lost Odyssey. I could get over the awful dialogue in ToV it is about as good as a 70s porno.

Lost Odyssey is built like a standard JRPG- combat menus, turn based combat, etc. It is an excellent game with a very good story. The beginning is boring, but as soon as you leave the main city the game really starts to take off. If youlove Finaly Fantasy, you will love this!

Tales of Vesperia is a fantastic game that is very addictive. My only complaint is that it can take a while to get used to its real-time combat system, but once you do, you can have a lot of fun with it! There are so many secrests in this game, that you could easily miss them... but it's also one of the few RPGs that I want to replay as soon as I finish!

Does anyone know if Blue Dragon get's any good? I'm about 5 or 6 hours into the game and it's like pulling teethe to play. The combat holds no challenge, the story is pretty disjointed and the characters (or at least that little bat person) are pretty annoying.

The whole first disk of BD blows but once you get to the second disk it gets to be a lot of fun. I think it takes about 12 hours to get off the first disk so you are about half way off it. When you get on the world map is where that game really starts to shine. There are so many side quest and side bosses that it is crazy and a lot of the side bosses can turn into quite a challenge.

Lost Odyssey is my favorite RPG since I played Lunar 2: Eternal Blue for PS1. I'm on disc 4. I think I'll actually finish this one. I haven't finished an RPG in a few years. The battle system feels like FFX with a lot more thought put into it and a bit more uncertainty on who is going to take their turn when (and different actions take different amounts of time). And it's actually hard sometimes (unlike FFX - I played the whole game and got wiped out only once). Great story too. I guess some people complained about reading the Dreams but I like to read. They're very thoughtful and philosophical.

The last tales game I played was Tales of Destiny for the PS1 which I played about 10 hours of. I've got Tales of Symponia for GC on the shelf but never got around to playing it.

I thought the dreams were going to be annoying too, but to my surprise they're very emotional and wonderfully written. Some of them brought me to tears.

Just picked up Tales when it was on sale at Amazon for $23. Hoping it'll be good. I was a big fan of Tales of Phantasia for SNES, but I really didn't like Symphonia.

As far as LO goes, I have a mere two words: ghost house. It really disappointed me that every random encounter was taking so much time and resources to beat. Not to mention 360 didn't have copy-to-HDD enabled when it came out (I hear load times are significantly improved with that now.) I really enjoyed the dream sequences, though.

You get a automatic FLEE ability about midway through the game or earlier you can use. IMO it'd be better to have a no-encounters ability ala FF6 but it's almost as good. Teach it to a fast character like Seth and you can get away from any fight almost right away.

u get a ring at about 4-5 hours into the game that has the skill flip tail or something like that which you can teach to all your immortals allowing you to "always flee from combat".

I think I have like 70+ hours logged into LO and I haven't done all the side quests yet lol. Damn game. Need to find and kill King Kelelon.
