Taiwan's government is preparing to set up an "AI on Chip" development project. The Board of Science and Technology wants to pool resources from schools, researchers, designers, and manufacturers around the world to make a "world class AI chip development ecosystem." Representatives from Google, Cisco, MediaTek, Maronix International, Novatek Microelectronics, and Elan Microelectronics were all invited to contribute their expertise, which will influence future policy decisions by the Taiwanese government.

Tsai said that the AI on Chip pilot project will focus on the development of four major types of AI chips, namely semi-common AI chips, heterogeneous integration AI chips, newly emerging computing architecture-based AI chips and AI chip software complier environment development, with the goal of establishing a comprehensive AI chip supply chain.

In the second stage, Kung continued, the government will set up an AI chip alliance, integrating advanced research, talent cultivation and academic R&D resources to build a national advanced AI development research network and establish connections with international AI chip applications markets.
