System network problem

I got a machine from a friend to clean up earlier this afternoon. After removing 107 viruses with AVG and 583 thing with Adaware/SpyBot. I went to update those three apps and had no net, went to go check the IP and sure enough it was one of those MS default IP's. 168.254 blah blah After trying to renew it I got this error.

Tried two other NICs, one wireless the other one wired. Didn't work.

Tried to reset TCP/IP with netsh dump, notta thing!!!

What should I do next? I've been working on this system for hours now and now I'm at a dead end.

corrupt windows sockets, quickest easiest fix? repair install.

I ended up finding another solution because method 1 and 2 on that link you posted didnt work for me. I dont know if I missed somthing or what but a small utility worked.
