System is freezing up. Not sure if its harware or WinXP.

System stats:
1.4GhzTually/BXmobo/660MB
ATIRadeon7000/WinXP(SP1)

System is locking up. Mouse freezes. Task manager shows no CPU usage increase.

Not sure if its hardware. I'm going to run memtest 86 just for the hell of it tonight.

What other test can I run to check the system out? Is it Prime95? Link?

If everything checks out I'll just do a reinstall. Any ideas please chime in.

If it were an hardware failure I would be more inclind to think that the system would either reboot or give the famous BSOD

I think this might have fixed it.

Some old 16 bit games that my 2 year old plays seems to have pissed off the system. I changed the compatibility mode to Windows 98/2000.

Havent had a lockup since. Weird.

Some of those old apps will not show up in processes ... but are using resources ... good to hear you fixed it.

You should think on dedicating a PC for your kids ....
