Switch works with Vista OR xp but not both?

I've got a little switch a bought a while ago(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833122029) that's been working great till I tried to connect my girlfriend's Vista desktop. She cannot connect to the internet while my machine is on, and visa versa. If I shut down and power cycle the modem and switch and then boot up her vista machine, she can connect. A guy I work with has suggested that the switch might be configured to only assign one IP address, but I've had 2 XP machines going at the same time on it in the past, so I think it's some Vista thing, and I know nothing about Vista. Would anyone know how to get us both online here?
 
You only get 1 IP from your ISP...you need to invest in a router for several reasons asap.
 
Yep. Sounds like you need a router and that you only have one IP to go around.
