Swap HDD to different PC and retain user data and functionality?

I am planning on swapping a Maxtor 160 GB HDD to a computer after it receives a new Motherboard, CPU, and RAM stick. It would have the same video card and HDD, but other things like LAN and Sound which are included on the mobo would automatically change too. Would I be able to just move the new parts in, and keep the OS on the HDD installed and would it work correctly? I get the feeling I'd need to re-format it... It uses Windows XP Professional. Thanks in advance for the help.
