suggestions on linux distro firewall for this box

pii, 400mhz, 8G hd, 96meg memory (old compaq presario). machine runs fine.

read through many a thread, seems like some are happier with less horsepower than others. hard for someone with meager knowledge to grasp which one though.

suggestions as to which one would be better for my machine from those in the know would be appreciated. sounds like an interesting weekend project to play with, since spring refuses to come to the northeast this year.

If you are doing nothing but firewalling any of the distros should do fine with those specs. As you add features the memory is going to start to be an issue. If you and things like a squid proxy, or snort the memory will definitely need to be increased. I know the default requirement listed for Clarkconnect is currently 256mb.

I highly recommend IPCOP. I have been running it forever and it does really well on a system such as yours. The options are great and I have yet to have any hitches.
