My sister currently is in NY, and she requires a laptop within 800$, since I am not too familiar with the prices in US, can anyone recommend a good laptop for the same.

Also am not too sure where this topic would go.. So kindly excuse me if its in the wrong forum.

Hmm I was looking for an AMD proccy ;) and an ATI Chipset (for the 2d quality) and occasional low quality gaming. Also eventually she will be sending the laptop to me in India and Dell's service here is on the bad side. How do the HP or Compaq notebooks compare to Dell ?

You should be able to get a Sempron around that price, but it would be a rare find to get an Athlon, without heading into the $1000 ish range.

As for HP and Compaq laptops, as from what i've seen there is nothing wrong with them, my cousin has one and has had no problems with it. Although she paid around $1200 for it. The run of the mill, entry level laptops might not be so good.

It looks fine, and the video card should do what she wants to. I'm not too clear on this though, hopefully some other people will post and give you a little bit more opinion.

I don't know what office max has going on now.. but the one I got..
AMD Turion ML-28
512mb ddr
40gb (4200rpm) hd
ati x200
DVD/CD-RW combo
802.11g w/ Speedbooster
12-Cell Li-On battery
14" Brightview Widescreen
Free HP Printer

Ran great considering it was $603 after tax and rebates. (note that I'm still waiting to see the money from the rebates. It was $1003.xx in store)
I purchased it in late august but have recently sold it to someone else because I realized I really no reason to keep it.

Thanks for the replies.

The tigerdirect link had a refurbished laptop, hence thats outta question. I have shortlisted a few laptops if you guys can comment on them it will be great. Also I would like to know how is their build quality, after sales service etc....

SiSM760GX chipset with integrated Mirage™2 graphics

All the Intel products have integrated GMA 900 gfx, somehow I am not too sure of the SIS's 2d quality as I have a comp with SIS mirage gfx at home and it wont play any D3d or OpenGL games. Games though is not a criteria, I want atleast 512mb RAM, a decent proccy, and decent d quality.

I have shortlisted a few other products too :
