I want something small that could be placed on a desk top. I just need it to power two book shelf speakers, and have a jack for a sub.

If it matters, I don't need AM/FM tuning, or a multitude of inputs for components other than a PC.

What's your budget.

$200 or less. I don't need many features.

Other than that I have been looking at perhaps getting a set of powered speakers to connect directly to a sound card. Then I wouldn't have a receiver taking up space.

Do you have a sub already?
Go to amazon and look at Lepai and Topping amplifiers.
Usually a Lepai Stereo amp and a 12 Volt 5 or 6 Amp LCD monitor power brick (I find the included 12 Volt 2 Amp inadequate, hums at higher volume settings) will drive most bookshelf speakers.
Topping offers subwoofer single or pair amplifiers. or possibly better stereo amp.
Anyway.
You can split the signal, or use computer or sound card sound split, powered subwoofer or passive.
Or add a plate amplifier to unpowered sub

Also take a good look at SMSL, fantastic value and great sound. SMSL SA-50 or SMSL S3

I don't have a sub for my PC. Not sure if I want one.

IMHO almost nobody has the right space / room setup for a sub with their computer... all it is really good for in many many cases is ticking your wife / neighbors .etc off while adding little to your listening experience.

I have a little SMSL SA-S3 t-amp i have had for about 3yrs it has been quite good... however now many are raving about the TPA3116 based amps (quite a few on ebay mostly DIY but a couple prebuilt in cases and all)

or SMSL has the similar TPA3118 based SA-36A Pro (not to confused with the TA2020A based SA-36A ... rather silly naming imho but they didn't ask me).
