Hello guys,

My setup
MB: P5N-E SLI Asus , 650i chipset, latest non beta bios
CPU: C2D e6300
Mem: 2X1 gigs Patriot DDR2 800 at 5-5-5-15 2T
Cooler: U120 extreme
HD: 250gig SATA II WD

I recently upgraded my cooler to the U120extreme and was having a blast with pushing my overclock. I reached almost 3 ghz with a FSB of 425 and kept my DDR2 RAM unlinked to the FSB at above speeds.
I had windows XP pro 32bit installed on the above system 2 yrs ago and got tired of long reboots as I was trying to get stable clocks. So I reformatted my hard drive and now have a fresh install of windows 7 RC which boots in 30 seconds. I wanted to use that as I push my overclocks and voltages up, but since I did that, i cannot overclock.

It's weird. I mean when I change settings in the bios and save them, they all save. For eg, q-fan settings, HDD smart monitoring, sequence of booting.....but when I increase FSB and or change memory timings, and boot into windows 7. CPU-Z and Everest Ultimate keep showing my FSB at default, and my memory timings are more loose. I restart and go into bios and my FSB is set on auto. I don't get it. When I save my bios settings and boot into W7, I am not getting hang-ups or anything, it reboots smoothly. Installing windows 7 shouldn't have anything to do with my bios settings.

PLEASE HELP WITH ANY SUGGESTIONS...........
THANKS

try to install a copy of xp, i dont know why it would do that though, maybe a low bios battery or something. I know i couldnt overclock with vista on my old fx55 but that was because it would bsod really quick no matter what but really stable in xp :) that was pre 7 btw. Still though, it doesnt explain why yours does that, ill check back every now and then to see if anyone else does

I installed a fresh copy of xp and obviously this had no effect on my inability to change FSB speeds. I don't get it. I am able to save bios profiles and change the settings. When I boot, it doesn't hang or anything, but it boots into the default FSB.
I even tried disabling some other CPU features that I don't fully understand wihtout help. I even disabled speedstep and CPU z is showing me that my multiplier persists to dropping down while idling.

ANY IDEAS, ANYONE PLEASE. Did I lose the ablity to OC.

the only other thing i can think of is try flashing your bios with either a new version or the same version you have now.. it may or may not work.. but thats the only thing i can think of..

Have you done a full CMOS reset yet? How about just changing the CMOS battery to be sure.

Thanks guys,
updating the bios didn't do it. But clearing the CMOS manually worked.

funny, everytime my bios crashes now, I'm having to reset the CMOS manually. My Asus crashfree bios is no longer working I guess. I don't understand why. Oh well.

My striker 2 formula was having the same problem, went through about 7 different bios versions untill I found one that worked right......but that board was always a little strange.
