If the totally absurd idea of someone getting a patent on sending a personalized marketing message using a computer doesn't make you laugh, the high-tech diagram of the preferred apparatus below will.


Claim 1 of the patent is representative (the claims are supposed to describe the boundaries of the invention). It claims a “method of generating a set of personalized communications … with a computer system.” The steps are described at an extremely high level of abstraction, including things such as “accessing a computer-accessible storage medium” using “identifying content to distinguish each person from other persons.” The patent plainly proposes using ordinary computers to achieve this task.

I read the title as "Stupid Parent of the Month" needless to say I was very disappointed after I read the post.

And this is why most cases should be treated as "loser pays everything", especially in frivolous cases such as this.

They have lost every single case so far even though they took it to their preferred patent troll court.

This reminds of that other article where simply changing the wording around in patent registration makes it sound like something else when it's still the same the thing.

You need to do some reading. Software patents are being struck down left and right since Alice, and VERY few new applications are coming through, let alone being granted. Hell, trolling rates are WAY down as well.

Stupid patents + East Texas = Super-rich trolls

It's getting to the point that you cannot even fault the trolls for their role in this. It used to be that they exploiting carefully laid traps and loopholes to swindling people/businesses, but now its more like the are just holding huge bags under a free-dispensing ATM machine. When the money comes that easy, someone will take it.
