It looks like Mac users have experienced another privacy breach....this guy. :D Thanks to TheWeazmeister for the linkage.

Trevor Timothy Harwell was arrested Wednesday after being charged with a dozen counts of illegal computer access and fraud, Fullerton police Sgt. Andrew Goodrich said. While working for Rezitech Inc., Harwell visited the homes of customers to service their Macintosh computers, Goodrich said.

“You should fix your internal sensor soon. If unsure what to do, try putting your laptop near hot steam for several minutes to clean the sensor.”

Responding to the message, many victims took their laptops into the bathroom while taking a shower, Goodrich said.

Seriously? People Fell for that?

Well the criminal is stupid, but his "victims" are stupider then he is.

He just channeled some Steve Jobs kool-aid and was good to go :p

Yeah, being that they were mac users they were already predisposed toward drinking any Apple related kool-aid.

Well he went to school with them so wanting to see them naked wouldn't be "sick" in my book.

Can't install anything without knowing and entering the admin password. Very different than most spyware/viruses that install themselves without any user input. It actually takes some social engineering to get a mac user to install something malicious, and being him the "computer repair guy," that wouldn't be hard.

We know. There is plenty of stupid in this world. :(

It's the misguided belief many Apple users have, that they are somehow immune to such things that makes us point fingers and laugh. :D

Who undresses in front of their computer?

I do a lot of things in front of my computer (pr0n), and thats why I turn my web cam away. =) Just in case. Thats a problem with notebooks with intergrated web cams though, but nothing that a bit of electrical tape cant fix.

I still love the fact he had the balls to msg the girls to tell them there "internal sensor is stuck" and to take it into the shower with them! Wow. Steam/moisture is not very good on electrnic components, but only Apple users are dumb enough not to understand that.

I doubt he was really any sort of hacker, and must of just installed one of those "find my Mac" programs that allow you to track your hardware and access it remotely, but invasion of privacy is the least of his worries if any of the girls are under age.

BS...it only took about 5 seconds from the word 'GO' for a Mac to be hacked at Pwn2Own. All it takes is crafted code in any web page. You don't even have to click on anything. The access obtained was admin level and is obtained without even crashing or adversely affecting the browser operation in any way.

Apple has since released a 'fix' for the Safari exploit used, but the exploit remains in the new code. To claim or even think anyone is safe from hacking is dellusional.

But...I digress, you go ahead and live in your wonderous fantasy world of apple nirvanna...

Who hides from their computer while dressing?
Many folks have their computers on desks in their bedrooms, so it's not as if it's a conscious decision to "strip for ma' compoooter".

I don't know what's more sad. That apple users fell for the error message that the internal sensor was malfunctioning and they should put it next to 'hot steam' or that this mac repair guy might have never gotten caught if he hadn't made such a cheesy error message.

That guy is a freaking genius actually, at least right up to the point where he gets caught :D
