Another day, another slave labor in China story. Something has to be done abo....hey, is that a shiny new gadget? Mmmmm gadgets. :D

Despite the efforts of major technology corporations, such as Apple and Samsung, to improve labor conditions in China, major problems are still slipping through the cracks. Now, as The Wall Street Journal writes, some Chinese students in their teenage years are reportedly being forced by their schools to work about 12 hours per day, six days a week, on factory assembly lines in that country.

There is always a cost for getting something cheaper.

I'm beginning to suspect that Steve got an iPhone 6+ and can't stop playing with it or posting these stories

Because the only thing made in China is iPhones.

They can make whatever they want there as long as they bottle the tears up so I can refresh that "oh god this phone I just put together costs more than I make in a year and the guy buying it will be getting them for his whole family and shrug when he puts it on his credit card" sheen.

Which I must admit I prefer over the "I want one of these so bad that I'd give a kidney for it but I only have one kidney left from my last phone purchase" sheen

So they're making improvements amirite? I mean the typical Chinese worker is like 8 years old, isn't he?

You mean increase profit margins for companies. Sadly in the shop you still pay premium prices for everyday crap as mobile phones. Unless you get the "Chinese brands" which allow english.

I want to see the term "Conflict Phones" used in the media. It will make me feel tingly.

Okay, so students in China are forced to be intern. I don't see a problem with that. Yeah 12 hours a day, 7 days a week doesn't sound relaxing but they do get paid as a regular employee. The complaint was that the school takes a huge cut from their salary. There is no issue here.

Companies technically buys students from schools and hire workers outside. The cost of getting a student is cheaper than a regular worker due to insurance and other cost, but they are being paid similarly. For those who loves talking about Child Labor and how China is bad at it, it is companies like HP and apple who is saying those are okay as those students are learning while working. Hey, these people are telling the truth, an average 18 years old in china can put together a phone/computer with the right parts and equipment. They can repair their phones/computers. In here we call them Technicians. Again, no issue here.

Students don't have a choice of choosing which companies to work for. Well... welcome to the reality. In fact, many parents of those students are saying the similar things. When more than half of the city is working for that factory plant, getting a head start isn't something to be considered wrong. Again, no issue here.

The true issue is the working environment. It is poisonous, resulting death or hospitalized for life! Some of these factories use chemicals like benzene that are banned due to health hazards, resulting dead/sick workers. Clearly, no one is standing up and say "I am responsible for their death/sickness and will feed them and their family for life." In fact, they are now getting smarter at using banned chemicals without getting caught. How many people (chinese) are being poison as you read? roughly 200 million, 10% of them are under 18. If your stomach did you get turned by this, then never talk about human right as you don't deserve to.

The funny thing is that liberals here in the US keep clamoring for a bigger and bigger socialist government, not realizing that is exactly what China has. It certainly doesn't increase prosperity or freedoms, but that doesn't seem to change their votes. Ugh.

Is this a joke? Internships are meant to provide hands on experience in higher level fields so the students get a feel for what the job is like and get some experience under their belt to make them more hireable, and is often done for free accordingly since the business gets minimal utility for them and is essentially providing free training.

This is just slave labor assembly line work, with the school taking their wages. They aren't learning anything.

Where that fails in terms of a self-supporting economy, it makes up for by being better at winning on trade. But then you have to care about your own country so if we go socialist we lose on both counts.

If we boycott China, Walmart won't have any products on their shelves.

True, but let's not put all the blame on Walmart as they did massive buy American pushes when they first became a huuge name, but the US consumer wasn't interested in higher priced US goods and instead flocked to cheaper ones from China, Japan and Korea.
