Hey guys, any tips on streaming shared media without having to use a WMP Server? I have all my music and video stored in shared folder in my HTPC, but none of it is loaded into WMP. Any way to just access the shared files directly for playback or some other sort of media sharing prorgams to run?

i use tversity, works very well. u can also try ps3 media server.

PS3 media server

/thread

Took me about 3 minutes to install and start streaming music. You man. Are da man.

Now I'm wondering, do I even need that htpc running anymore? Is there anything special it can do that my PS3 can't do now? Streams music, should stream porn/tv/movies ok (haven't tried yet), have netflix, never use Hulu....

I would never think of using a PS3 as my only HTPC.. Its media compatibility is to narrow yet a realy HTPC has no limits whatsoever.

There is no way a PS3 is going to play my lvl5.1 1080p BD rips with 13+ ref frames.

Get the newer binaries from the PS3 Media Server forum. (the author's alias is Shagrath) I wish I could thank whoever mentioned this application first here on Hardforum

What new/different features do these include? Been using the PS3 Media Server for about a month and love it already. :D

Heh too many to list, but if it works fine for you , don't bother updating. The only fix I only cared about was better thumbnail searching while streaming

i had used tversity for about 2 years until recently changing to ps3 media server, what was i thinking waiting that long?!?!

streaming 1080p mkvs owns.

You could stream your video file alternatively through the transcode folder. It's usually under the same directory as the file you're trying to stream with.

The error "data corrupted" is a result of the default transcoding engine failing
