Steve Ballmer Agrees To Buy Clippers For $2B

No he has no case against selling the team. That (gratefully) falls under a rule that he did sign into, allowing the NBA league to dictate terms of selling a team.

His case is more or less his banning. I doubt he cares, he will hold a grudge against the team being sold, sure, but if he goes to court it will be damages from a quick reaction to something that was illegally done.

To tell you the truth the NBA needs to get their nuts kicked in too. I wanted him banned, shit I think 99% of NBA watchers wanted him banned, 100% of san diego wanted him banned but they should of done a bit more then just wait for 2 days and ban him.

I was just speculating, he's done as an owner and with any formal relationship with the NBA. It's just a matter of how hard Sterling wasn't to make it for himself. I really don't see why he would have any interest in fighting the Ballmer and the league over this especially with the price Ballmer is going to pay.

What choice did the NBA have?

Players were going to not play and multiple billion dollar corporations started pulling sponsorships. Sterling hurt the business which allowed the NBA to act swiftly.

He didn't hurt the NBA, an illegally recorded and released recording of a private conversation hurt the NBA.

They had plenty of options and no, they didn't do it because of the possibility that players weren't going to s how up, they did it because of viewer ship and a knee jerk reaction to get the cancer that is Sterling out of the NBA.

Of course HE was the reason the sponsors started pulling out. Yeah, the recordings were illegal BUT they became public and started hurting the bottom line.

The legality of the recordings have nothing to do with it. I'm not a lawyer, but my understanding is that such a recording obtained by private citizens of their own volition without the help or encouragement of government authorities can be used as evidence in criminal cases. If Sterling had for instance confessed to a murder in this recorded conversation, because it was obtained by a private citizen even illegally, it could still be used against him.

he'll make out with 2 billion after his wife gets half

Considering sterling bought the team for 12.5 million in 1981, he won't lose anything in its sale. Couple this with the fact that balmer is overpaying by a billion.

Since the NBA postponed the decision to force the sale because Sterling's wife initiated the sale before they would have voted I don't see a case on the NBA forcing the sale proceeding ... a suit restricted to just the lifetime ban and 2.5 mil fine (the only two things actually implemented) would not be worth 1 billion ... it will be interesting to see how far this suit progresses (hopefully a judge will throw it out)

They had the representative of the players union on ESPN radio like a month ago. He said the players voted to walk out of the playoffs, if something wasn't banned/ousted immediately. They brought this to Silver. What was Silver (NBA commish) supposed to do? Have what might be the most embarrassing sports protest ever on his 1st year as head honcho? All other options would have had bad results. This decision did nothing but strengthen Silver as commish and the NBA period.

Let's say the players walk out the NBA playoffs. The NBA's reputation as a league that wouldn't remove a blatant racist sticks for a long. The NBA product sinks below NHL popularity. The broken TV contracts nightmare, cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria!

It looks like all the bids that came in were well over a billion dollars. There was a lot of interest to buy this team from a lot of folks for top dollar. Why, I have no idea. But these opportunities are rare and it's not like you can go bargain hunting when the chance is there.

The Clippers are enjoying the most successful period in their history right now. They are possible champion contenders. Couple that with them being in LA and they could garner a lot of media revenue.

Why "hopefully" a judge throws it out? Take the silly emotion out if this and at the end of the day its a foolish old man that they're trying to railroad based on an illegal recording. Its great he's fighting back. The suit against the nba doesn't actually expect to get the monetary sum it seeks. It's just legal maneuvering by his legal team who are much smarter than their client and doing the right thing for him.

I also hope the tranny golddigger ends up criminally or civilly liable for the illegal wiretap before all is said and done.

I meant "hopefully" because the NBA did not "make him" sell his team ... they never voted on that (and we don't know what the final vote would have been ... although we can make estimates) ... his wife sold the team before they needed to vote ... he can sue them on the ban and the fine (if he wants ... and that is worth a few million at most) but I think this is more about publicity than anything else

The NBA is a restricted monopoly (as all professional sports franchises are) ... if you choose to join their club then you give up many rights as part of that privilege ... he made that choice and now he is complaining about the restrictions that come with that (he also violated their charter previously when he moved his team without league approval ... no wonder he had few friends in the league) ... I am perfectly happy to let the professional teams manage their own business in the way THEY and the other owners see fit, as long as they provide their main product (entertainment)

If anyone is trying to railroad Sterling it's his wife who has agreed to indemnify the NBA against any damages that Sterling might receive. That's right, Sterling is suing himself.

The legality of the recording doesn't matter a bit. There's no way a person that said them can possibly own an NBA team because a league that's dominated by rich and powerful black men simply won't tolerate it. And these black men are why the NBA makes its money, not the owners. And the other owners are very well aware of this and they aren't going to tolerate Sterling's bigoted nonsense hurting their pocket books.

There's nothing to be gained by Sterling with this lawsuit. The team has been sold and he can't get any money from the NBA for damages because Sterling's own trust would have to payout those damages.
