I just updated my windows 7 I5-6500 w 1070 card to windows 10 actually Microsoft tech did it as my digital license wouldn't work. Anyhow it ended up being a custom install of 1803. Now the Windows VR portal works fine and plays the MS store VR games ok. However It does not detect the HP headset in Steam VR. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Steam VR to no avail. I have no clue what is wrong here. There is something mentioned about turning off screen mirror. I don't quite know what that is but it stops headsets from being detected? Anyone out there have this problem? Any help is appreciated..

I *think* you need to install the Steam beta for WMR headsets to work. But IDK as I don't have one.

I think you are correct, it left beta a couple of weeks ago, don't have a WMR yet, want to get one for portability though:

Microsoft is late to the game, attempting to create their own unique buzz words and special branding with all this "Mixed Reality" crap. Same old song and "me to!" dance, while unsuccessfully attempting to differentiate themselves as unique and special in what amounts to an already well established and robust VR market. They've done similar crap with the Zune, Windows Phone, MS Surface, etc. They might get it right eventually, but then they'll be so far behind that they'll end up cancelling their WMR product line and moving on to something else they didn't spearhead or invent... just like they've always done. I really wish they would put effort into actually leading something for once rather than just simply chasing after others and trying everything under the sun to get folks to use their MS store. The "WMR" branding and the MS Store - they both simply need to die already. Would have been so much simpler to just embrace Steam and roll out their VR headset there as to software support/installation via a partnership with Valve.

WMR pricing along with the inside-out tracking not requiring external sensors is a bit more than me too in PCVR. It is something you can take on the go and move around easily with a powerful enough laptop.

Not knocking the tech - inside out is evolving and will be part of just about every HMD going forward. But that tech isn't all that great yet and it will be the next gen before inside out gets all the kinks worked out. MS jumped in half baked and the "me to" bit is the lame marketing, stupid choice of the "WMR" buzz word when in fact it is simply just VR, and the tie-in to requiring the use of the MS store.

Mixed Reality, while not true of this headsets, does represent a broader range of products like the HoloLens. So it's not exactly total smoke. And these headsets to work with Steam VR and the support is getting better every day. All of the content that's in the Windows Store that works with WMR is also in Steam and WMR compatible. For what it is and the pricing, it's just not a bad thing if you want something cheap and or portable.

I managed to get tilt brush up and eternity warrior fantasy game running by clicking just the steam mixed reality app and then the game, but what a headache still could get not get battlezone VR up. and one wrong click and back in Cliff house. No wonder windows headset prices are dropping no one wants this BS....

Yeah.. that’s why I went with the Vive Pro over the Odyssey. Didn’t feel like dealing with shit like that.

I have a Vive Pro as well and think it's great but that's $800 just for the headset versus less than $500 for the Odyssey with controllers.

I can’t do with shittier tracking though... it could be $50 and I’d still skip it.

I understand but the Vive Pro has been blasted over its price and not a significant enough improvement over the original Vive. It's tough to ignore cost in a typical comparison. At $50, WMR would be a no-brainer but because of portability.

Inside out maybe ok for basic VR but when you start tracking legs, mid section for full body representation, especially with multiplayer and also peripherals and other objects then it falls apart.

If a good sell occurs for the Pro I will probably get one. Just not worth it for $800. $599 I would bit, well at this time that is.

After installing the beta for the WMR in steam, mine has worked perfect with the HP WMR
