Wtf is up with Steam? Here I sit after working all night, credit card in hand thinking I'm going to surprise my son with Black Ops: Annihilation d/l pack and the friggin servers are down!! Sure...the money grubbing servers work just fine but I can't even log into the single player part of COD....something I paid $60 for! Now they want $15 for 4 maps...for a game I can't even play!!! Not to mention I can't even ransfer a cd key for an 8 yr old game to my sons account, which can be verified 100 times over by IP addy....not that anyone there cares, they just want another friggin $40 for some stupid shite.

No wonder EA is telling them to stick it up their ass....the communist control of their game delivery is little short of Marxism!! EA...stay away from this company, you'll make much more the good old dvd way.

I really need to put a patent on Corporate Stupidity before anyone else does!!! There's a ton of it flying around everyday.....we could all be bazillionaires!!!

btw. try doing those on ea thing too. and ea games will soon require their prog

well, when the steam download servers go down... it seems like every one in the world goes down at the same time, and it can be quite annoying. Oh, well. At least their download speeds are rather fast.

I don't see how the issue of $15 dollar map packs sold by Activison can be fairly attributed to Steam/Valve.

As for the account based gaming model, it is what it is. The tradeoff is convenience vs freedom. There are other services that offer a model not based upon linking your purchases to an account. Although this wouldn't help for Black Ops, since it is a Steamworks game.

Also the offline mode in Steam has always been hit or miss. But it doesn't seem to be something they are prioritizing, much to the dismay of some. This may not just be a technical issue, but part of their DRM model, so the solution may be more complex on their end. Likewise there are other DD services which utilize an alternative method for DRM.

Cocaine's a hell of a drug.

Lmao, i was trying to word a response that didn't sound like an ass, but i guess that's not needed.

I guess my questions is does this happen often? Or was it just bad timing and sent you into a little rant.

Damn those liberals at Steam! with their sexy client and sexy discounts damn them all !

Sometimes on huge releases the servers will fart out, I think I've had a payment fail once since HL2 was released. Just wait 10 minutes and try again and / or change locations.

I think they upgrade their servers yearly, with the next upgrade being supposedly something massive as they want to prevent it from happening any more.

More people need to practice the Lincoln method of writing out their rant, and then filing it away until the next day, and then deciding whether it's actually worth broadcasting to the rest of humanity or not. I think half of the internet would disappear instantly. (the other half being porn of course)

Sounds like user error to me. :p I've still never seen the Steam servers go down like this. If you can't get one of your games to start install or download, try re-starting steam or just re-boot your computer. That hasn't ever failed to get it working for me.

As for why OP would be willing to lay down that kind of cash for such a crappy game, well I can't help there. There's tons of equally good or better games you could be playing for less $$.

Im in the US and that's kind of my experience, any servers dropping or systems going down last at most 10 minutes and everything is back. About the worst i have experienced is playing L4D 2 when friends drops your server doesn't repopulate until the match restarts so that can be pretty irritating.

Here's my attempt to introduce an educational element into an otherwise trollpost:
which can be verified 100 times over by IP addy..
Google for and read up on pooled IPs and you will find out that absolutely nothing can be verified by IP address.

This concludes the Public Service Announcement.

How can you not play the single player version?

Playing single player requires you to connect to Steam......even installing the game requires you to connect to Steam. It wouldn't surprise me if Obama wanted the names of all COD players to put them on the suspected terrorist list. Welcome to Americ....I mean China

I fail to see how that's steam's fault and not that of the Valve team who made L4D2.

Really? You don't think they have any idea of anyone logging into their servers? Funny, since even the stupidest games like Minecraft keep a log of every person logging into the server......even more ridiculous is the fact the ID was doing the same thing waaaaay back in Quake I days. Hmnmm....guess the big corps are getting dumber by the dollar

if its not an authentication server, then you can play most SP steam games offline. Since you are an asshat, you can find out yourself how

After the last two posts from the OP, I agree. This topic deserves closure.

Just like your gaping ass. Now explain why I can't even play a single player game without logging into a server that is "too busy at the moment".

Most of the time when the servers are down it is for a short period of time. Are they still down?

I don't own the game, but doesn't steam have an offline mode? I've never had problems with that. i feel for ya. Good luck!

4 !/2 hrs and counting. Maybe I should've been more clear...check your $hit n see if u can log in. But it's still ridiculous to have to be tied to the internet to play anything you buy...it's a busted system and resembles Socialist monitoring

Whether it's a great game or not....meh...I play it with my son and he likes it.....not bf1942 but its entertaining.....now if the damn servers would let me log in....

The servers were not down when I was on 2 hours ago, I can't imagine why they would be down, there's no big sale, and there's probably nothing stressing Valve's Steam network, only thing that could be happening is the Dota 2 stream, if it's hosted on Valve's servers.

Sorry, but I just can't take anyone who drops socialist/marxist/communist all the time seriously. I haven't been able to drop a duece for days, damn my socialist bunghole!

Step 1: Click "Go Offline"
Step 2: Play Game
Step 3: ...?
Step 4: Profit!
Pretty much. Playing SP games offline is incredibly easy. Even with my apparent rectal condition I still have the time between emergency trips to the bathroom to figure it out.

I played a few games(dont own BLOPS) and they worked fine. Try renaming the clientregistry.blob file. That used to fix most problems back when steam was new.

Then maybe you need some Marx-o-blastic.

Seriously though.....every other game works 100%...HL2, CS:S, Gmod,etc,etc....
Call it what you will but the system sucks....pretty soon you'll be forced to have health insurance AND internet :|

What the hell kind of father are you?! Giving that kind of junk to your SON?!

If I was your son, I would punch you in the face if you tried to give me that garbage!

...but seriously. Shit happens to servers and connections sometimes. If it's not working through steam proper, try to buy it through their website... and give yourself some time to cool down before posting a ridiculous looking rant that begs for unhelpful replies.

So what happened to the OP? He just rants then walks away?

He jumped off of a bridge after getting paranoid that Gabe thought he was a giant cheeseburger with bacon strips for the side dish and was coming after him.

ps, Gabe if your reading this, I still love ya man

He likes it and....I'd squash your nuts if you had any if you tried that.
7 hrs is enough time I believe....stil trying to see if anyone on the west coast has the same issue. Yes I've restarted a million times, everything was fine yesterday, 8gb ram, backed the oc down to stock 3.3g....blah blah blah blah. I can still play every other steam game but BlOps......

Now, if I could get to A menu..ANY menu, don't you think I would suffer through offline botmatch? Nooooo...can't even get past clicking the icon til I get the insufferable "The Steam servers are too busy to handle your request. Please try again in a few minutes."
It's been a couple hundred minutes....maybe you can understand my frustration from there.

I'd LOVE a giant bacon cheeseburger right about now......n I don't care what Gabe says...he's buying
