Steam Is Banning Sex Games with Young-Looking Characters

Valve is considerably lax on what it will allow on Steam, but there are some titles and content that won’t fly. The company initially banned “low-effort games with titles like Big Dick and MILF, achievement spam, and certain sex games” and has now moved on to titles that feature themes of “child exploitation.” At least some of these involve “sex scenes or nudity where the characters are in high school.”

Over the past few weeks, the company has removed the store pages of several visual novels, including cross-dressing yaoi romance Cross Love, catholic school visual novel Hello Goodbye, “story about the love between siblings” (yuck) Imolicious, and cat girl game MaoMao Discovery Team. The developers of these games all claim to have received similar emails stating that their games could not be released on Steam.
 
They're not in high school, they're in "college" or at the "university".......
I wonder how many hentai that they were in "college" back in the day?.....
 
I would argue that this move shows a bigoted lack of tolerance for other (Japanese in this case) cultures, and that Valve should not try and force white, western values on foreign game developers of color. Valve, check your privilege.

I remember seeing some VR girl show up on the front page of my steam sales, she looked super young. Was kind of disturbing... but then again, we're old as fuck anyways.
 
"Young looking?" What does that mean exactly? I don't want CP on Steam, but I suspect they are going to go with their gut. Unfortunately, that usually means that the "rules" regarding, what is permissible, and what is not, will be fairly inconsistently applied.

I don't most of the time, but when I do, I always see it. And I don't browse that type of material. I just assumed that Steam was going that direction, which makes me less inclined to use the service.

Age is just a number, there are plenty of 25 year olds who can pass as 16, and vice versa. So really this is just empty moralizing, by whoever. I shall refer them to my signature.

Let's not try to muddy the waters. It is very clear what age some of these characters are suppose to represent and it is rather gross.

My wife is an RN in an OB/GYN. She sees pregnant 12 year olds. The fact is that in our current society, sex is happening more frequently and at much younger ages than in the past.

I get notifications on explicit search results from the schools I monitor, you would be surprised what gets googled and binged in 3’rd and 4’th grade. Mostly from kids trying to learn what older kids are talking about. Strangely the schools that implement more comprehensive sex edd at younger ages have lower less unusual searches.
 
This is so dumb. Cartoon characters aren't real people/ kids/ animals/ etc. Another reason why you need to support yourself... your own game distribution, etc. When they don't like your message, they shut you down. Look at what Patreon, PayPal, Apple, Google, etc. do to right-leaning content creators.

That applies to real humans. You can't draw a nude stick figure with a caption that says "they" are underage and call it child porn.

I understand Valves position though.

Considering they will be held accountable, in my opinion, cannot say I blame them.

Which is not a good thing. On a more specific topic note, Steam will be held liable for some of the things on their service and therefore, I can see why they would do so.

Well, look at it this way. Any highschooler having sex isn't going to be playing these games. And even then, they're not legally entitled to purchase them anyways. So who's the real market for sexualized highschoolers here?

Except that none of that is true. Teen pregnancy is the lowest it has ever been. Millennials are having less sex than any other recent generation. People are having fewer children than ever before and they are having them later. Also throughout most of human history girls were getting pregnant in their early teens. Literally nothing you said was true. Those 12 year olds are weird outliers.
 
This is in direct response to having competition in the industry from EPIC. Steam has no values, just dollar signs.
 
Meh, most of these games were developed outside of US cultural views, explains why people would be offended by a drawing.

In what culture is sexualized minors OK? I'll be sure to avoid them like the plague, and feel great about judging them as harshly as possible in any way I can.

Any evidence of that? Most likely they just drew a line and broke out the ban hammer after realizing how much work policing shit that might cause them legal issues was becoming.

My opinion is, that whatever it depicts, a video game is just that, a video game. It is pixels on a screen. So I would rather that we did not have to censor anything. It really is do not like, do not buy, and let the market get rid of the fringe stuff over time, as far as I am concerned. I do realize that the law prolly does not agree with me on that. I don't like that they are censoring, but I understand why it is happening.

I'm not suggesting people should play those games if they don't want to, nor am I arguing against Valve's right to permit/ban whatever they want for whatever reasons they want but.....your position is narrow minded and focused only on your feelings. My two-year old is guilty of the same thing.
Who is or isn't a minor varies across countries/cultures and minors often obtain varying freedoms at different ages. Of course, this completely ignores the fact that we're talking about pixels in the first place and not actual human beings. You do get that there are some important differences between pixels and humans right? I'm sure you're also aware that doing something in a video game does not mean one will do the same things in real-life, so what is your problem exactly?

Your strong desire to judge people you don't know and make assumptions based on nothing but your own feelings says more about you than anything else.

How about....you play whatever it is you want and people will refrain from judging you for it and you offer them the same courtesy.

From young musicians to toddlers and young kids with makeup and wearing bikinis to the underage social-media whores to beauty pageants for children to advertisements to magazines... the list goes on.

EDIT: Something occurred to me. The places I can think of where children are over sexualized...don't have high rates of kiddy-diddling. The places where children are not sexualized...often do. Many Islamic nations, China, and Catholic churches come to mind as places where kids don't wear makeup, don't generally wear suggestive or revealing clothing and so on.....but children are absolutely getting sexually abused at frightening rates. Odd.

but all the violent games are ok i dont see the issue with these game not my thing but they art like it or not the character in them are not real there for have no "age" and whats the diffence between these games and say a movie like "kids" or any other movie or show that depicts sex between underage people but with actors over 18?

by steams standards you have ban any porn with girls under 5'2" and less then a b cup because they MIGHT be underage
