Ladies and gentlemen boys and girls, nerds, geeks, and the rest of you dateless wonders. The 2015 Steam Summer sale is here!!

Steam 2015 Summer sale FAQ for noobs

  1. Don't buy a game unless it's a daily deal, community choice, or feature deal.
Usually the game you want will most likely end up as a daily deal, community choice,
or feature deal. Wait until the last day to pick up any game that wasn't part of the
daily deal, community choice, or feature deal.
  2. Daily deals and community choice repeat, if you miss out on a daily deal or
community choice there is a good chance it will come back as a feature deal.
  3. Make a wishlist of your favorite titles this way you'll be notified if it goes on
    sale.
  4. Finally grab a beer or 10 and enjoy the 2015 Summer sale!

Yep, sounds about right for the start of the summer sale :)

Looks like the servers crapping out, you think they'd have it sorted out by now!

Yeah, I don't recall Steam ever remaining this fucked for this long. Weird.

About 4 or 5 years ago when they announced they were partnering up with Valve for their new paid mods section of the steam store.

Kind of a deceiving way to put it. This isn't a paid mod. Mod implies it requires another game to function. It is a standalone, retail release, same as any other indie game. Furthermore, the mod version remains free as it ever was.

Is there a way to get GTA V w/o stupid cash cards? I don't see any non-bundles, even the non-package is bundled with the Great White Shark Cash card which keeps the price @ $60.

It was originally a free mod until Valve got their hands on it. Just because Valve said "Hey we like your work, here's the full source SDK and we'll package it with all the source materials." doesn't make it any less of a mod. I didn't care for the original Black Mesa Source team. They were a bunch of asshats that didn't give two shits about finishing it until Valve stepped in. It was basically vaporware and somewhat of a running joke of a mod which people would always compare release dates to.

I got conned lol. When the steam sales first popped up GTA V showed up @ $29.99

No it's a scam, they're bundling ingame cash cards and then applying a 30% discount and calling it a deal at $60, fucking pathetic.
I'm guessing it's because those cards are "in-game alterations" so if you buy this bundle, you will not be able to request a refund.

Finally got Metro 2033 Redux on decent sale, are those Elite Sniper games any good? I usually never play 3rd person shooters.

*GTAV for 20 bucks was not a full game, it was some "mislabeled" shit, the cards or something, they changed it now into a bundle so they don't give us a fucking discount after the game was out for 2 years. Classy move...

Well they used to have serious issues during their big sales, but I don't remember any real issues the past few years.

I wonder how the community event is going to be ruined this year. :D

Only time will tell, but if event results in millions of $ in market sales, I doubt Valve will care.

Considering that it's new on PC and still selling well at $60 they have little reason to offer a discount. If they did offer a discount at best it would have been a paltry 10% and people would have complained. Wait for the fall or winter holiday sale.

I paid full price for GTA V on the 8th. I just submitted a refund so I can get the in-game cash card for free as the purchase is the same price. :D

I've played Sniper Elite 3 on PS4 and it was alot of fun. Singleplayer is decent but the game is the best online.

Yeah I see the original post and say hey there... I see a picture of the GTAV logo, beneath it says 33-75% off, link has to GTA franchise, alright I can dig it, but some price off is good... and no. Zero percent off, however if you buy the ingame cash cards you get a discount... meh.

I'm not super disappointed either, because I honestly don't expect it to be on sale at all, that said I think they changed their front page because you could argue it is extremely deceptive (bait and switch like?), now you just see the GTA generic logo. That said, like always they have all the other GTA games massively discounted. Could be nice if you never played them, but if you never played them you probably wouldn't be excited at those prices at all :)

Far Cry 4 looks interesting at 40% off, however after FC3, I'm not sure it's a $36 value of a game, especially considering all the DLC that's piled on.

Anyone have an opinion on Ziggurat? It's a flash sale right now for ~5 bucks. Watched the steam videos, seems fun and quirky.

Thoughts?

DARK SOULS™ II: Scholar of the First Sin $24.99

Buy now? or hope for a cheaper daily deal?

I actually like FC4 more than 3. 3 was good but 4 takes everything 3 did and improves on it.

Never buy anything unless it is a daily deal or a flash sale. If it doesnt end up being one of those 2 then buy it on the last day of the sale.

Personally, I think it's a solid value at $36, but... everyone will probably disagree with me. :D

(Far Cry 4 mini-review)

It's at a point where most of the game-breaking bugs have been fixed (except for weird SLI rendering of shadows which seems to come back time and again) (oh and some weird FOV glitches). It's a very long game in a pretty large open area, if you are prone to OCD tendencies of doing all the individual side missions - some of which are incredibly mundane and repetitive, but others are pretty outstanding. If you watch some YouTube videos, you can see if you'll like the game's art style.

There's nothing new brought to the table - you're a near-perfect killing machine from the start, and your skills and weapons only increase as the campaign continues. The plot is paper thin but enjoyable if you don't take it too seriously, and at times it's tough to really follow a series of missions.

It's a little disappointing in the sense that the best moments of the game come and go so quickly - the fortresses you can take out are essentially larger versions of the enemy outposts you can capture - these mini sandboxes where you have the option of taking out everyone silently without raising an alarm, or go in guns blazing and shooting everything that moves. And with only one save, it's almost impossible to relive some of these missions, or pick different choices in campaign missions.

In the end, I guess it doesn't really matter - the version of Far Cry that is being cultivated here is very transient and very chaotic - driving a pickup truck towards an enemy outpost, you run into an enemy technical and aggro a rhino at the same time, which ends up with possibly a Bengal tiger jumping in and pouncing on you. If you're okay with things like that happening and then disappearing in a wash of golden sun and a backdrop of white Himalayan mountains, then you'll be okay with a game like this.

Other random things I wanted to say:
- like Far Cry 3, the bow is the star with a very nice cast of gun "supporting actors"
- like Far Cry 3, there's a fair amount of dry/dark humor in the text for items and random notes you find
- okay so the FOV bugs are really annoying
- co-op is possible but you cannot progress in the campaign, only doing side missions, and of course both players need a copy of the game
- if you want to loot every chest, gather every upgrade, and complete every side mission, this game will take you forever
- there's a single-seater helicopter which makes traveling from point A to point B effortless and boring at the same time
- every gun is overpowered, but some (grenade launcher sidearm) are more overpowered than the others
- the DLC is extraneous and is not a "must-have" - the only one I can recommend is Valley of the Yetis and even that can get old quick

1.Don't buy a game unless it's a daily deal, community choice, or feature deal...Usually the game you want will most likely end up as a daily deal, community choice or feature deal

so I shouldn't buy Scholar of the First Sin for $13.99 currently a Top Seller but not a Featured Deal...does that mean that the price will go lower during one of those Daily or Cummunity Deals during the current sale?

The sniper elites are fun to play...specially zombie mode multiplayer w/ friends... ooh reminds me, gonna check that out!

Also GTAV was released this year for PC. Hence Steams screw up for $30 and now bundled for $60.....which makes me laugh because Pre-orders for $45 or so from GMG gave the bonus in game money.

Man, maybe I need to get back in the game. WTF are those Shark cards?

The upgrade price is only $1 cheaper...how does that make any sense....

the upgrade price shows as $13.99 for me...they used to have 3 separate pricing tiers...$50 for the whole DX11 game, $30 for those who have the game already and $20 for those with season pass...so they eliminated the $20 option for those that already own the Season Pass??...meaning if that option went on sale as part of the Steam Sale it would be even cheaper then $13.99

I like it and it runs great in linux. I logged 4 hours or so before the spring semester had started. I'll revisit it sometime after I get through some of my backlog.

Well, the PC version has only been out since April, so I wouldn't count on much of a discount, if any. It's a good deal for those that want the ingame money. I'm considering buying it, so if I can get some ingame cash as well for the same price, why not...
