I bought:

universe sandbox - $2?

lol, this is the worse steam sale yet. Either games I already have or games I dont want. I bought more from amazon recently than steam lol.

Then be happy you have all the games you want?

Yes, horrible sale. The rest of us picked up games at $5.00 you paid full price for.

I'm a good year or 2 behind on games, so if it isn't below $10 it doesn't go in my library.

One of the benefits of getting old I guess.

I never paid full price for any of the games. Lol, year round amazon has sales on games I want and for equal if not cheaper prices than the steam sale earlier. There are a few games I want that weren't on sale for the price I want but meh. Steam sale is IMHO getting worse every year and compared to the almost monthly sale on amazon and gmg its kind of hard to like steam sales.

I love that :) That's what I love about Steam. I can access all my games in one place. Theres no need for me to get a console ever.

Nice that this thread broke 1,000 replies.

Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to buy anything during Steam's sales this time around. :( I got in on a couple sales that GOG and GMG about a month ago.

Just wait until Steam closes the door for business and say goodbye to all your games.

Ah, this again.

I don't see this happening at all. Even IF Steam ceased to exist, which they are in no danger of doing anytime soon, you think they are just going to tell people with 400 games in their library "Sorry about your luck?" Erm...no.

Wait...is this a thing now? People proclaiming Steam's demise?

This FUD will occasionally rear its head on the forums...usually in response to someone saying that they prefer Steam games because it gives them access to the majority of their collection in one central location. Every once in a while, someone will practice fear mongering by telling us Steamers that we are suckers for buying Steam games because we'll lose access to our digital libraries when Steam shuts its doors, or gets bought when Gabe gets greedy, or performs server updates, or doesn't hold the door for the ladies, or during the next full moon.

Maybe I'm just naive for trusting them to do the right thing, but even though we technically "rent" vs. "own" the software, I don't think they are going to leave people who individually shelled out thousands of dollars for games high and dry with nothing to show for the money spent.

Valve has historically been one of the least douchebagerous developers/distributors in the business, so I think they've earned our trust.

I purchased a few digital games from FilePlanet when it was still around. When they closed up shop, my digital purchases were transferred to GameFly. I never lost anything. I'm sure Valve would do the same thing if they were to ever go out of business.

The thought of Valve going out of business anytime soon is laughable. It's like worrying about Microsoft, Google or Apple going out of business. It's not going to happen for a LONG time if ever.

Valve said they would patch the games to not require steam to run anymore so you could download them and back them up.

In response to the FUD about "what if Steam shuts down, does everyone lose all their games?" I wonder how many games Steam has sold since they opened up "shop". I'll just do some very rough estimating. Let's say worldwide, they have 4M customers (that's about 1 customer per 2,000 people in the world), who have on average 25 games each. That'd be 100M games sold in total. I don't see them closing the doors on 100M games. But who knows, I too could be naive. : \
