What the hell? I thought J.J. Abrams said this was over? Didn't he state that hey were resolving this issue? This is a bummer, I guess the people behind Axanar were right when they told everyone not to get their hopes up. :(

Despite the fact that Star Trek Beyond director Justin Lin has urged Paramount Pictures to drop a lawsuit over a crowdfunded Star Trek fan film, and notwithstanding comments from executive producer J.J. Abrams that an announcement would be coming about an end to the litigation, the parties involved in the fight over Axanar continue to lob court filings at each other. The latest comes on Wednesday when plaintiffs Paramount and CBS told a California federal judge that their action remains pending.

I dunno, Nemesis was so bad I've been "boycotting" Star Trek ever since.

I'm betting Lin & Abrams just said that so the fans wouldn't turn on them. Then I'd bet Paramount demanded all the royalties, rights and ownership of the fan film along with the screenplay for any future project they were planning. Writing on the 'reboot' films has been beyond piss-poor so far and i'd bet the guys behind Anaxar threw away better ideas than the Paramount people ever had. Hollywood relies on getting people into cinema seats before word-of-mouth spreads the truth about how bad a film really is, more so for a film lacking any substance like most of J J Abrams movies.

Just switch to a better franchise. Remember, BSG got the best writer from Star Trek TNG. ;)

We almost had a big BSG reboot, but since BSG opens with a terrorist attack and this was just after 9/11, nobody wanted to touch that with a ten foot pole even though its so very relevant even now with the ever present threat of militant Islamism. Now, finally Universal is pushing for a BSG film, but no writers on board yet since its an election year and everyone is sensitive about a politically charged movie that talks about religious terrorism, fear of being replaced/supplanted by a machine as we're seeing automation in the service industries and soon transportation industry as well, and so forth.

    *crosses fingers*

Beats another Star Wars/Trek movie that, while entertaining, is completely forgettable right after having watched it.

I'll watch the movie, but it's not going to cost me anything. Before I get slammed for that realize there's a lot of ways to see movies free of charge in theaters nowadays, and since I live in Las Vegas there's plenty of agencies that provide free tickets to most anything if you know how to make the request so, I've already got two advance passes for Star Trek: Beyond anyway.

It's sad to see Paramount just continuing to be absolute dicks about this, I just read a really great article about this thing on Flipboard not yesterday and the outcome seemed almost a lock at this point, guess that's just not the case.

CBS/Paramount, what the fuck are you doing? You have the MOST loyal fanbase in history with Star Trek fans, why do you continue to just be nothing but massive dicks about this stuff? My god, haven't you greedy bastards made enough money yet from the franchise?

Anaxar was very good. It's disappointing that fans are treated this way. I hope it gets worked out I still want to see the next episode. I also liked Nemesis. Out of all the TNG movies that is the only one as a whole.

Paramount and CBS isn't going after fans. They do have legitimate concerns here. If anyone can take Star Trek IP and make a movie then it essentially becomes public domain. The only way to solve this is some type of licensing arrangement.

This. Posters here have no idea how IP works. It is their duty, and their right, to protect their property, as sour as that is for fans. It's a product of our legal era. Also, Having met the former head of the CBS legal team, if their new representative is 1/10th as terrifying as their old legal head (albeit she was incredibly talented, and wonderful off the clock!) Lin better watch out.

Cbs Viacom has a duty to protect their IP even if it hurts fans feelings. They also wrote the reboots to appeal to a pg13 audience for movie sales. They're a business. They're not netflix catering to niche fans. They're not catering to their core fan base either, as it's dwindled and remains a drop in a much larger buckets, and likely through their own fault. Kj Abrahams Star Trek appeals to fans, kids, adults, and dr pepper can promotions, etc, unlike the tv series which caters to semi intelligent folk, canon neck beards and perhaps their unenthused girlfriends.

Truth be told, I don't hold much hope for Beyond if the trailers are any indication.

For one thing, I'm sick of seeing the Enterprise destroyed. They just built another one and it's already being ripped apart?

The first JJ movie was fun. The 2nd one wasn't as good (though not as bad as nemesis, which was a really bad remake of Khan).

And yes I know the 2nd JJ movie was also an inferiror Khan.

I guess I'm missing how pointy ears and Klingon (the fastest growing language on the planet, last I heard) really threaten them more than the countless fan films that have preceeded this one. It sounds like you understand this more than most of us, so could you elaborate?
