Star Citizen Selling A $900 Ship

Lol, You pay $45.00 for the cheapest full game package and then use REC to play any ship you want with any loadout you want FOR FREE. Your dishonesty is epic.

You don't earn REC in Vanduul Swarm, and having to play against players with good ships and good load outs is not enjoyable with a stock Aurora MR to earn the REC. You need to sink serious hours into the game each week to keep the good combat ships unlocked. The Kickstarter that I backed specifically said the game was not pay to win, but that is not the case. Having to grind to keep things unlocked is pay to win and common in freemium games like APB where things expire.

What is wrong? Are you claiming my personal experience from just several weeks ago did not happen?

Yes, you can play co-op swarm in an aurora, 2 or 3 times to earn 1500 REC to rent a merlin, which is essentially an m50 or better in some cases from a combat / evasion perspective, and then you have that ship, and can renew it at a discount.

New equipment is very cheap to rent as well and once rented also can be re rented at a discount, so if you find a setup you like you can just play normally and enjoy the game and keep re renting the stuff you want.

At first the 7 day rental thing sounds bad, but if you play one day, and dont play again for a week you still have 6 days left on your rental so it only ticks down a day when you actually play that day so a 7 day rental can last all month if you rarely play.

Its like people around here have a problem with actually playing the game to earn things. When it is not that hard to do.

Once you have a Merlin, you should be able to stock pile REC very fast which means you can rent what ever you want when you want it, because you don't really need to spend REC at that point unless you choose too.

How far do you have to get in Vanduul swarm to earn REC? I played it for like 30 - 40 minutes in some hornet variant with the gamescom promo and didn't earn any REC.

Co-op Swarm is where you earn REC, and you get the REC when everyone dies their final death and the swarm is over.

Also a good tactic to use in co-op swarm if you are in an aurora is to wait for one of your team mates to engage and aggro the swarm, before you go in so that way they are not all gunning for you, and you can pick off the vanduul without getting lit up your self.

You are part of a cult. You need help.

Same tactic we'd use in EvE for PVE. Being a battleship specialist meant that was me often. I was never a major fan of PVE though. Too grindy.

Sorry we have a Cyanide Kool-aid meeting at 6pm, help will have to wait.

Tho it is worth mentioning people are quick to label things they don't understand.

People are also quick to label things they do understand.

Fanatics can justify practically any atrocity to themselves. The more untenable their position becomes, the harder they hold to it, and the worse the things they are willing to do to support it.

My first and only needed red flag to this whole debacle: Roberts' "actress" wife holding a high position of power. Gold

It certainly doesn't help.

The doubt started creeping in for me long before any of the recent hooplah, when it became more and more apparent that the scope of SC was becoming equivalent to, if not surpassing, GTA5 MMO in space.

Add in Jennison's letter that they essentially paid him 74 weeks worth of pay for work that he says he could have done in as little as 15 weeks, and things look even worse.

You don't even need a single thing from Derek Smart or The Escapist and their 9 sources to have serious concerns about the project.

I'm calling it now. Public opinion of this game is going to continue to erode. The game will get released as a buggy mess. Once they get it patched up it will be a shadow of what it was supposed to be and what people built it up to be in their heads. People will flip the fuck out because they spent $$$ on digital items for a game that blows. Fanboys will try and do their thing and make the game sound great when it is shit. People who warned them years in advance will laugh.

There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

If it ever gets an official 'release'. So many damn 'modules' that need to be completed, and then put together into a final product, Roberts talks about reaching the final release like fitting Lego pieces together. I wouldn't be surprised if they just release the buggy modules and never 'put them together'. Or maybe run a "HELP US PUT THESE MODULES TOGETHER" kickstarter. Pledge $900 and get free character title!!!

Well, the base for building the game is not really the modules, as those are actually their own entities within the verse.

Star Marine for example is essentially its own game, Arena Commander is essentially its own game. You just access them through a VR setup within the game. They are games within a game.

Yes the modules help balance and stress test important mechanics, and on their end they do implement them to some degree, like FPS stuff is the foundation everything is interacted with in the verse ect.

But the modules are very much separate entities, Star Marine will always be around, and Arena commander will always be around within the verse and accessed like a game, just like if you were start up call of duty right now on your PC that is essentially what those modules are.

The difference between those modules and say the Large World Map, is that the large world map is where they bring the different tech together. So changes in Star Marine or Arena Commander might not have any bearing in the large world map, as those other 2 modules are just simulations within a simulation.

That is also how the REC system came about as it is like a digital currency Origin Systems brought about for handling virtual goods transactions within their games, and on the Electronic Access store.

So the Large world map is there to actually build out the PU and implement PU features and multi crew gameplay, it also allows them to take focus off those modules and put that effort into fleshing out the PU side of things while leaving those 2 games within a game as their own entity.

Which is why Arena Commander 2.0 is actually being pushed back because they are going to use the large world map as actual PU and multi crew testing before worrying about implementing multi crew and subsequent game modes in Arena Commander.

So we will likely get access to multi crew ships but within the large world map sandbox Baby PU environment faster and in a more unbalanced state than waiting on them to balance the ship for Arena commander before we get to fly it.

Really once the Large world map comes out (maybe late october) it will really mark the beginning of the public construction of the PU, it is partly the culmination of the work on all the modules but it is also not as simple as just merging them all together like a lego set, maybe it looks like that on their end to some degree but to us the public we will never see that merge happen we will just see the culmination of that in the Release of the Baby PU (large world map).

Greetings Citizens,

UPDATE: The attached demand letter is our formal response to specific, slanderous allegations made in the recent The Escapist article on Star Citizen. Normally, we would keep this behind closed doors, but we felt it was imperative to put our statement on record and indicate how disgusted we are with The Escapist’s irresponsible actions. Corporate at Defy Media asked us to delay publication of this letter while investigating, but we feel strongly that the record needs to be set straight without further delay.

We know that most Citizens are not interested in this drama, and as such we are updating the original notice rather than publishing additional Comm-Link articles. Future updates will occur here rather than in additional sections of the RSI site.

There was a Forbes article on the letter update as well

http://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonev...-the-escapist-demands-apology-and-retraction/

Interestingly, the letter refutes the validity of The Escapist’s vetting process. See, the author claims she used Company ID cards to verify identity, but Cloud Imperium Games claims in their response that CIG “does not issue any company ID cards at any of its studios.” The plot thickens when you see this exchange of tweets suggesting that the ID card the author saw was nothing more than a generic RFID card like this.

I wish all this BS would just go away so they could get back to work on the game...all of this just detracts from development time IMO.

So basically instead of offering up proof that what was said is wrong, CR is trying to strongarm critics into shutting up.

could be, or it could mean they don't tolerate personal attacks against employees or family members.

either way if it does go to court i am sure CiG would not risk it if they didn't feel comfortable winning.

Except it's precisely development time and/or lack of proper management of time that's on trial here in the first place.

I don't think the drama affects production that much, i mean its likely mostly handled by legal and then the 20 minutes it takes for CR to fart out another letter.

I mean sure legal could be working on other things that pertain to the companies interest, but this is sort of the reason they have a legal team/personnel any way.

Has anyone seen CR, anywhere, deny the claim that they only have 8 million dollars left? He said some claims were false, but I don't recall him saying that that particular claim was false in his 25 page crazy ass rant, I mean letter.

All he says is the they have a "healthy cash reserve" which is completely subjective and not really at all informative. Then he says they have other funding sources like tax incentives, marketing and product parterships. How is he making money off tax incentives and marketing parterships?

Why didnt he say that 8 million dollar thing was a lie?

my guess? unless they come out with some kind of actual proof they don't want to discuss finances good or bad as that would make it seems like Derek and other haters can get info with enough bad PR. Its no different then when a coworker asks me what I make, my answer is always "enough to support me" because discussing finances with anyone but your boss or spouse is a usually not a good idea and just opens a can of worms later on.

Except he is relying on crowd funding and supposedly is open about development, so why wouldn't he be willing to show what is left in the bank. We actually all know why, if there isn't much left in the bank then it is obvious the game won't be finished without a large cash infusion.

Progress is still being made, albeit admittedly slow. Most of the attacks I am seeing lately are related to personal issues between employees and "OMG they charge hundreds for ships!!!11" when that has already been a thing for years.

Wrong, its the fact the game is delayed, they have released basically nothing, and CR is selling ships that don't even exist. I would expect the progress to be where its at with what he originally asked for on Kickstarter, to have basically nothing in over 2 years with $90 million is fucking ridiculous.

I am willing to bet CR and his wife have been on the receiving end of a good chunk of the money, mansions, cars, and vacations are expensive.

People still defending this scam I see. I hope you idiots enjoy your whole lot of nothing with the hundreds you spent on neat looking, yet non-functional virtual ship models.

lol all the butthurt anti sc crowd. Do you guys expect a game such as star citizen to be finished in a year and a half because this is how long the actual game has been in development. Humanity is doomed.

When the Kickstarter was launched in 2012, a year after development began in 2011, the announced release date was 2014. You are now claiming that development began in 2014. Are you sure this is how you want to proceed with your argument?

lol, now the diehard fans can't even remember how long they've been waiting on the game. Amazing.

you forgot things like game design, marketting. Finding offices etc these things take time to complete you dont just pull a game studio out of your behind. You also forgot they prob had to study cry engine, tech form amd should we go on.

you clearly need your head examined. Would you rather have have a rushed game and never endig dlc(i bet you would be the first to moan, whine and complain like a jilted feminist), or have a game like star citizen crowdfunded and created by a perfectionist. If it succeeds it would change gaming for good. No more crappy ports, no more nvidia gamesdontwork breaking games, no more overpriced dlc. There are so many positives but they are overshadowed by haters. We get it you dont understand Chris Roberts Vision to create the ultimate game of all time. Comparing Elite Dangerous to Star Citizen is like comparin caviar to dog poop.

I didn't. CR and fanatics believed in it.

This is not the first time the question was raised on their developement. When asked last summer, fanatics said it's gonna be all fine and ready.

You mean no more of endless ship concepts and $900 ships? Hey.. it's already being sold without the game even being out.

I wonder how many of these SC fanboys are the same people that go around the internet laughing at religious fanatics...would be an interesting study on irony...

I mean reading the posts just on this topic...some of them are going to have some serious real-life issues when this thing finally crumbles. You can see it in their writing - they are sincerely emotionally hurting anytime someone even questions the game, the company, or this chris roberts guy (who I never heard of before SC).
