Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

If i melt my super hornet package for 180 dollars get the 40 dollar aurora MR package and keep the 140 left for upgrades in the future or to split to two ships what do i lose? only my 2 year insurance? Considering i don't have LTI should I do this if I want to split to two different ships instead of having one ship like the freelancer MIS?

I just want to make sure I don't lose anything else like beta access.

Freelancer MIS is $165 standalone. So ya, $140 upgrade to the base ship cost of $25 Aurora MR would cover the Freelancer MIS.

BUT if you but an LN game package, you get a better ship for a while and save $5 on a $10 upgrade from the MR to the LN, base value of $35 vs $25 with only a $5 price difference in the game packages. So $45 for the LN Game Package, with a $35 base ship price, means you have $135, but only need to spend $130 to upgrade to the Freelance MIS.

EDIT I'm not gonna work out all of the game package upgrade values, but pretty much everyone's been trying to explain to new people that not only is the LN a better ship then the MR, it is a way better deal in the long run. Between the $40 MR to $45 Mustang Alpha deal you are breaking even, but loosing $5 compared to the LN.

Is it the "Weekend Warrior" package? if it is then you will lose the pistol that comes with it which is honestly nothing special and you should be able to pick it up in game anyway.

All the packages come with beta, so you won't lose that. Your backer amount, backer date and number, backer rewards from stretch goals etc.. stays the same.

You can look at the details in your hangar and compared them to to new package on the store to find out exactly what is different.

I think the main differences are, (currently looking at the normal Hornet package and the Aurora package)

- Different hangar
- Less UEC
- Shorter Insurance
- No Digital Game Soundtrack
- No Digital Star Map
- No Digital Squadron 42 Manual

-Edit: as RangerXML said the Aurora LN package is a better deal. You still lose the differences listed above but it's a better deal than the $40 Aurora package since upgrading that MR to a LN would be another $10, plus if you melt it in the future it probably won't be blocked from unmelts since it's not a discounted package.

I should also mention that the Freelancer MIS to the Super Hornet has a FREE CCU, next time they come up, just pick up a bunch of those, to switch back and forth with.

Thanks for the help guys. Sorry for not explaining very well. I have multiple of the free CCU between super hornet and freelancer mis but after some thought instead of trying to keep the super hornet which is pure dogfighter or jack of all trade ship like freelancer MIS which i can freely switch between, i was thinking about getting two ships to do two different roles instead or have the option to upgrade to something else like connie taurus or a cutlass (which i can't downgrade to because it is a cheaper ship) depending on what I plan to do in the future. I just didn't want to miss my chance if they are splitting packages and making things more expensive in the future where basically melting would be "losing value" If that isn't the case then I will keep the package as it is now if I can always melt down to the aurora LN package and then upgrade to any ship without losing value (for example: I can use credit only to upgrade to super hornet or freelancer mis) or at least in the LN case I get additional 5 dollars in exchange for the loss of 2 year insurance.

Thanks for the info on the LN. I think if I do it I will melt for the LN and gain back the 5$.

Okay last question if lets say I want to go back to superhornet or freelancer MIS I can buy back the pledge?

Currently on buy back, CCU and upgrades do not show up and can not be bought back on applied packages, but melted unapplied CCU do.

And If I remember correctly I think my 2 year insurance was part of the upgrade from regular hornet to superhornet. So basically I won't be able to get that 2 year insurance back (unless they bring it back) but I will gain 5 dollars. I have free ccu from gladiator to super hornet and super hornet to freelancer MIS so those 3 ship I should be able to interchange between without issue. I would just need to upgrade to any of the three ships using the store credit if I really wanted to go back to one of those ships but looking like I probably won't since the auto loading feature will probably require a crewmember.

You can almost afford to get like an Aurora starter package, and use the left over to get a Constellation Taurus which is 150, you would likely have to put $10 in to get that. or ccu to the Taurus in the package and see what you have left for getting a starter.

You would be well off for transporting stuff and then still have a smaller ship you can dogfight in.

So the "PACKAGE - DRAGON*CON/PAX ARENA COMMANDER STARTER" is an ok package for $40? That's what I grabbed tonight. Hope someone on these forums gets a reward as I remember clicking a link here to play for a week a long time ago. Did you link that promotion Lorien?

Anyway here's what it came with:

Aurora MR
SelfLand Hangar
Starting Money: 1,000 UEC
3 Month Insurance
Digital Star Citizen Manual
Squadron 42 Digital Download
Star Citizen Digital Download

I went ahead to some place called Ostler and flew for a few moments before I fall asleep tonight. The other 3 ships I could choose from in game were trial ships or something? Maybe one is a starter in case your paid ship gets destroyed?

The download was really speedy. 150% faster than Origin and matched Steam's best peak speeds consistently from start to finish. Guess I'll poke around a bit more tomorrow. I'll dream tonight about which key will retract my landing gear.

It's the cheapest way to get in to the game, so it's the best in that regard, however for $5 more you can get the Auora LN which is a slightly more beefy version of the Aurora MR. It's technically a $10 upgrade that you can get for $5. So if you plan at any point in the future to get a better ship by pledging more money then you could get a better deal. It's only $5 though, so it's not like it's anything major. I always say go with the cheapest, no reason spending more money unless you want to support the development more than you already have. Otherwise there is no reason since you can get the rest of the ships in game once it launches.

Also you can play the other multiplayer modes to get REC which is the temporary Alpha Currency (I don't think the current Persistent Universe "open world" portion of the Alpha gives creditd yet) Then you can go to the Electronica Access store on the webpage and use that REC to rent "Ship Roms". Which gives you access to those ships in the game for 7 days at a time (Only downside to it you can't see them in your Hangar to walk around in but you can load in up in the open world PU and walk around them there.

The extra ships may just be because of the fly free promo going on that ends on the 14th. They do that sometimes, like a fly the Origin 300 series for the week etc..

Yeah the downloader completely saturates my 150 mbps line. Steam is close to it but the CIG downloader makes it hurt haha

Welcome!
The other ships are temporary loaners and will not be available always (and will change). Right now there are no penalties fore anything yo do in the game,. but they are coming (so just have fun now). Other than that- Have fun!

I saw a video on the weekend from BoredGamer about SweeetFX mod for StarCitizen and then remembered on of his earlier ones about enabling DSR (nvidia) and decided to take some screens, this one turned out the best.

Are those supposed to be thrust shields/deflectors? because they look like they can only stop the thrust from the Greycat 6000 SUX

This is obviously an older concept image. Go and rewatch the Idris tour video where they show the same thruster wash deflectors at full height

Here, I did your homework:

Yeah that looks way better lol.

If they get any sort of discount (which is usually the case when giving a shoutout like this in a corporate ad) I'm all for it.

Some how, considering its Time Warner, I picture more of a threat being involved and very little choice of service in the LA area.

haha, I'm sure they got a discount or some other kind of incentive. I can't really say I care to be honest lol

Hellz yeah, Xi'An Scout time :)

Also I don't know if anyone saw but on RTV they said that in 2.2 the Xi'an Scout will be Hangar Ready and the Sabre will be flyable. I'm still sad the Starfarer isn't out yet but I'll take what i can get.

Man they are hitting their stride bringing out ships now with every patch. I love it.

Surprised no one mentioned the Corvette name drop in AtV

light Corvette - "Polaris" - the name isn't firm, but it's def coming from RSI. Looking to be 100-110 meters in length

So it is slightly smaller than the 890 Jump at least in length.

Seems considerably smaller than the old Idris corvette as well which was some 150ish meters i believe.

Oh nice, I smell another AMD tie in with it. As most people know by now their upcoming GPU architecture is called Polaris.

Have not seen this mentioned here yet either, yay its not called the Monarch lol

Hey Everyone!

A few weeks ago on Around the Verse, we mentioned an upcoming Drake Interplanetary ship, and while the name has jumped around between a few choices, we’re happy to say we’re moving into the initial planning stages for the new Drake Buccaneer.

We have a good idea on how we want it to handle and perform, and we’re keeping the loadout details as a surprise until the full concept treatment has been completed, but we want to involve you, the community, in pulling together some reference images for visual inspiration for the ship.

Additionally, since this ship is still in the very early stages of the design, we’re going to keep new thread creation locked in this subforum until we’re closer to an actual concept release. We’ll definitely want to hear all of your feedback on the Buccaneer when we reveal all the details, but for now, we’re just pulling together reference images. Please keep this in mind when contributing to the thread.

Now, since it can be hard to get inspired on just a name, here are the details we can share right now:

• Single-Pilot craft with no interior.
• Fast and Maneuverable, under a pure racer in speed, but handles well at high speed.
• Roughly the same size as a Sabre.
• Pairs well with the Cutlass or Caterpillar as an escort fighter.
• Extreme reliability, exceptional ease of maintenance.

For the next few weeks, pour whatever images come to mind or inspire you when thinking of this ship. We’ll be keeping an eye on the thread to help get a feel for the style this ship will be taking. There’s no cut-off on this yet since we’re just starting into the design on the ship, so toss out whatever you think works. From there, we’ll look over all of the images posted, as well as anything we may find along the way towards concept to help inspire and drive the look and feel of this ship.

Put up a Discord server for Dokazon Corp.

Discord

If anyone wants to use it for Star Citizen voice chat, or normal live chat, we can make channels for other games as well, like the division or BDO or any other games people in the Org. might play.

It has some nice chat features and an online/offline user list ect.

I put the link on the Ship list page here in the forums as well in case you need to find it again.

Yep, I'm really glad to see more of the base systems coming online every month.

:( no invite for me yet. I haven't been playing much with the PTU's so I'm not surprised.

I really want to test the new party system, we can finally start joining as a group without elaborate steps like before. The reputation/criminality system and bounties are pretty freaking awesome too.

it all looks good except for the part about being kicked off the server if your killed at level 5. While I'm all for a good risk/reward system I think that's a bit much, I like the whole 30 seconds of jail per criminal level why cant they just add an extra bonus time to that for level 5? Say 5 minutes of jail for level 5. Just not a fan of the whole being kicked from the game idea, it might be to much of a deterrent for people to play the pirate/rogue pilot.
