Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

I am sticking with Live version only and not going for PTU UNLESS they add Sabre, which I doubt will happen til the 2.2 live version. I don't have a Vanguard and none of the "fixes" will do anything for me...

I am hoping they fix the damn crashing issues for AC...Swarm and Royale tend to crash a lot.

My god, the Vanguard in 2.1.1a is everything I dreamed it would be...SCM is 180, which I'm ok with, because afterburn is 270 and cruise speed is 1.5k, the shields have been buffed until the 6x tech is in place and don't really go down when getting hammered in Vanduul swarm and the big gats overheat has been reduced and is practically a sniper rifle and the ship can dance. I know this ship is going to change, but let me enjoy this while it lasts.

What button triggers afterburn again? When I hold shift it just speeds up to the limit.

So I'm back in business, one of my ram sticks died and I almost pulled the trigger on a whole system update but just got a cheap no name brand replacement to tide me over.
P.S: Laptops suck ass all it could play was SC2 on lowest settings and it was such a pain in the ass lol

I play SC on a laptop but it's a gaming designed Alienware junker...gonna go back to desktop sometime later this year.

Yeah I can see that can be bearable but the laptop I was using had some intel IGP that would throttle when playing X264 movies. I spent more time researching how to unpark cores and force Quicksync DXVA acceleration in MPC-HC more than anything.

I took the Vanguard into Vanduul Swarm on the PTU and the most damage I did to it was me putting into some rocks (need to remember this is not a small fighter). First time in I beat the ship to hell, but it remained combat effective, as in I only lost one of my M4A and decided to quit at wave 14, then went into coop and went all the way through wave 18 while getting hammered without losing any weapons.

I can honestly say, this ship flies as advertised :D

I play on a SAGER laptop and I can play full settings on high, around 45-60fps, I love it. I have a desktop, but its not a gaming rig, thats my laptops job! :D

Going to have to try out the new Vanguard on the PTU. Does it seem to turn slower at all compared to live? The lower SCM speed is fine with me as long as it can still turn decently enough to get the 4 fixed nose guns to be useful. Used correctly I think it's massive cruise speed will be a great asset. One tip, you CAN slow back down fast, just decouple and point your ass in the direction of travel first. It's like they're modeling that it has huge engines that can only point one way or something...

I completed a CVS with my VG on live with no Gatling gun (forgot the ammo), just the 4 fixed. Was a bit slow when it was just two of us on the later waves due to crashes but still a blast.

So along with the Gillian Anderson behind the scenes they also brought the Xi'An Scout back for the next week.

And it seems the ship will be in game in a not too distant patch
The Scout is still a concept ship, meaning that it will not appear in your Hangar today… but we are happy to announce that it is currently in active development and will be one of the next ships added to Star Citizen’s Alpha in a 2.x patch!

Oh and 2.1.1 released to LIVE: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link//15168-Star-Citizen-Alpha-211
Alpha Patch 2.1.1 has been released to live, and is now available for players! This patch is primarily performance and crash fixes for Crusader and Arena Commander, as well as some ship balance changes.

And from Reverse the Verse, seems like buying back pledges with store credit is ready to roll. Next week everyone will get a token to test the system (one time use).

what does the token do? i didnt watch RtV

So you only get to buy back one pledge with store credit?

seems overly restricting.

Unless they give out tokens on a regular basis like 1 once a month or something.

Sweet i can get my Hull E back finally and then get my fleet finalized.

Also isn't it the end of this month the they are going to split the Squadron 42 and Star Citizen packages and/or probably raise prices?

Maybe my explanation wasn't clear enough. The reason why you are getting only one token next week is because they are testing this new system.

Yes, Squadron 42 (Single player campaign) and Star Citizen (Persistent Universe) will become 2 separate games at the end of the month. We have essentially been able to get both for LESS than the price of one.

What is the cheapest way to buy the full game? I cannot seem to figure it out via the store page. Need breakfast I guess. Brain dead.

Over three years and some people have spent hundreds or thousands of dollars on nothing more than digital swag, yet some of you speak as if it is already they greatest game in the world. Why?

They enjoy it. What's an alternative?

People spend thousands on smoking. Or thousands on gambling. To each their own.

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Packages/Aurora-LN

That's the best bang for the buck...comes with a ship and access to both games. ship is upgradeable

Oh and to semi-advertise, if you need a referral code, I still kinda need just one recruit to get a little bonus :p STAR-RYK7-T9GJ (also gives you 5000 UEC upon getting a package)

2.1.1 has been much better than 2.1. Performance has been better and it's been really stable. Still crashes when exit the game but other than that I haven't had any crashes.

Ty. Done and done. Looking forward to floating about.

Edit: Oh man. I just saw that you wanted a referral. I thought that was included in the code. LMK if I can do anything.

You did it right, you are listed in my prospects ;) the code is the referral basically...once you buy a package/get confirmed you get the UEC and I get whatever it is for 1 recruit...haha

ah yeah that makes sense, i was actually thinking that was likely the case after i posted.

Im currently sitting at 12 prospects, and 6 recruits, just want to hit that 10 recruit mark, it feels close. lol.

I don't advertise soo maybe my problem haha...I will have to get my gf into SC and have her buy using my code.

I leave it as my Steam name, so my 300+ friends see it when i play something or when i play a game like CS:Go the players see it when i kill them or get MVP at the end of the round.

lol

Ill remove it once i hit 10 recruits.

Where should I look for a how to video? The ones I have seen are old.

Being an alpha, I guess the performance is low still? I get 30 fps avrg with a 4.2 2500k and an XFX 290 DD oced a bit.

Great game potential here. Maybe greatest ever. Lots of detail in what is there.

Nothing really recent...best way to go to the free flight mode in drone sim. Which is electronic access>arena commander>drone sim, and pick one of the free flight maps that comes up. There you can get a feel for the ship and the physics.

Don't worry about crashing/dying, nothing is permanent so far.

playing vanduul swarm is a good place to start as well, fighting for your life is pretty good motivation.

I play that all the time now...we should match up sometime. I am renting the Vanguard but I may drop down to the SH again cause the VG is really quirky for me atm.

Don't forget, if you make it all the way through Vanduul Swarm (I think you have to be in Online mode, not sure if it requires a party or not) you qualify for the "Aggressor" forum badge/ title. Newcomers to Star Citizen, there are some special events like this that have taken place over the past year(s), where you unlock a special title if you play the little minigame associated with it.

For instance, Aggressor is the first one that takes place IN the Star Citizen Alpha itself (Vanduul Swarm mode, complete Wave 18). However, there are many that took place on little mini-game webpages/news posts. Check out Hyper Vanguard Force - https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14704-Hyper-Vanguard-Force - a surprisingly difficult and enjoyable shmup. Complete all three chapters for a "Predator" badge, and beat them all on the hardest difficulty setting for the Apex Predator title! Check out a link to these and others on the StarCitizenBase wiki - http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/Titles . They're under the "other titles" section with the link to the minigame you need to play and complete. Unless I missed something where these are no longer available, I'm pretty sure all of these are still active (note: getting the Aggressor badge now will not grant you the abiility to purchase the Esperia Glaive ship; that was a limited time promotion).

Spaceman, a couple of tips -

How are you planning to control, first of all? (mouse/keyboard? Joystick + keyboard? XInput-style Controller? HOTAS etc?) They are tweaking some game systems with frequency so as far as user-created tutorials are concerned many of them may be older though some information is still viable. Don't forget the in-game tutorials that instruct in the basics of flight as well. Free Flight mode and Vanduul Swarm, played offline are great places to practice. It does take some getting used to, especially with more advanced maneuvers like decoupling (ie enabling newtonian physics), dealing with high-G turns (ie black-out and red-out are simulated in game. By default, your ship tries to protect you from pushing too hard, but you can turn off the safety as well.) please note these systems are like everything else in Alpha, preliminary and will be changed and expanded considerably.

As far as performance is concerned, yes the game is unoptimized at the moment so you won't be getting the most efficient experience. Look for your performance to only get better, however, as time and development advances. There will be bugs and glitches; this is a TRUE Alpha, not the "basically ready to release, yet you need a pre-order key to get in" thing that much of the industry has foisted on the playerbase over the last few years. The great thing however is to see the changes as development continues - I've see the Constellation I've owned since 2012 change its design 3 (and there's about to be another) times and each has gotten larger inside, more ornate, more functional etc.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask - there is a cadre of regulars in this thread that are helpful and willing to assist.

P.S. - if you don't yet have a HOTAS or are planning to buy one, hold on - there are going to be 2 series of Star Citizen peripherals, announced for preorder in the upcoming months. Cloud Imperium Games asked around to many of the major manufacturers of peripherals from CH, Thrustmaster, Saitek etc... who would be willing to update and build a new set of joysticks/HOTAS and Saitek were the only ones willing to alter/iterate their designs as CIG wanted. We know there will be a 'basic" lineup and a "premium" one, each modular and customization-ready.

See if you can find a deal on a X52Pro or X52. Seems like those shot up in price over the past few years though.

Yeah they are way out of my price range....the few cheap ones within my current budget are screwed up or missing parts.

I bought that exact HOTAS, while it's a good price, I would never recommend it. The problem is the accuracy of the stick, it's absolutely garbage as far as I'm concerned. IMO I think if you end up using it you'll just get frustrated trying to hit stuff in game and give up on joysticks...

The only stick in that price range I would recommend is the Thrustmaster T.16000M it uses the HALL effect sensors and the accuracy is leaps and bounds better, plus you can use the Target software to adjust curves, modify buttons etc.... Plus if you ever decide to get a better stick you can modify the handle to make it usable for your left hand. Only downside is it doesn't have a real detachable throttle just a slider button on the base of the stick.

I've seen it go on sale for ~$25 but it's been awhile since that happened. ~$40 to $45 seems the normal range for it.

Also the Star Citizen sticks will go on sale soon but you're going to end up paying a premium for them and also they will be made by Saitek/Madcatz so I would recommend waiting to see what the quality control and reviews have to say 4-6 months down the road before I would even consider buying them.

I am not spending 150-300 dollars on flight sticks...budget is 30-50 for a good set...MAYBE 60-65 tops for a good HOTAS.

My current stick is frying and it is basically the same model without the big throttle box. I know it won't be super precise but for new pricepoint it should work for me.

So this is a great video series with overviews based on the lore and all sorts of interesting info bits about the star systems in the game using the Star Map https://robertsspaceindustries.com/starmap

Lorien, you know he just has a playlist.. I just send that to all my friends, it's probably one of the most useful Star Citizen web series right now.
