Not to get off subject, but I sat that Star Atlas teaser video and thought it looked worth finding out more. Pretty~ish website, that teaser, some very random art, and super vague promises of more. It set off my MLM alarm so bad I laughed...

Oh boy, has it been ten years already? It looks like the arguments are more or less the same. I've put my money down so long ago...I guess it's time to check out the latest version since I got a new graphics card recently. I usually install the latest Star Citizen release when I upgrade.

I had my fun with it over the years. I only play solo because I have no friends in space or in real life. Will this game ever be completed in my lifetime? Who knows...but hey if you feel like your purchase was worth it, I am not one to argue. I put my money down because I believed in the world that RSI wanted to build. I was a lot younger and full of hope in those days. Now I'm just old and just need something to keep me busy for when I retire and can play PC games all day. My money is already invested...hopefully I will see the games release someday.
Same boat here. Does the current version of the game have playable content for more than 10 hours? I've fired up the game once every few years, and it seems the most basic "instant action" Vanduul Swarm game mode gets worse over time. Is it finally better? If that was the whole game with more content, it would have totally been worth $20-$30.

Last I played I was walking on a friend's ship that was "traveling" for 20 minutes from task to task and I instantly got crushed while walking just on his ship. We had to restart from the beginning...noped out since then.

NFTs could be a great idea if they enable you to trade your ships over the blockchain they're on. If they do that I'm putting up my LTI ships I haven't used or touched ever up for sale, and maybe even on OpenSea or Coinbase (when they release their NFT platform) if these end up on Ethereum.

I've kind of lost all interest in SC at this point, and being able to safely sell my SC assets via NFTs / smart contracts would be nice.

I just got the new newsletter talking about SQ42. This is the kind of bullshit they have wasted time and money on for a single player game.

My problem is that by the time they get this version out of Alpha in the next decade, the game coding will be so old we'll get a message like "Due to our aging coding, we've decided to scrap it all and start over with the newest technology......We'll be out of Alpha in about 4 more years. But we'll have even MORE ships to sell you!". :dummy1:

I think I bought a video card that got me this in 2014.

What'd I miss?

Thats the top of the real update that they emailed out yesterday.
Yep, I got that email. Mind-blowing. They are talking about having NPCs have "relaxation" cycles or whatever, but why in the hell would they spend so much time on something like this when you'll spend maybe like, 30 seconds watching an NPC do this, ever? Just more evidence that priorities are massively fucked up over at CIG. Finish the actual gameplay first and then work on stuff like this, if you even really need to.

Like I said, an inside joke. Something the community would get.

But if this is serious, I'm not sure what to make of it. We don't play games to look at NPCs getting in and out of beds and tucking themselves in.

I didnt even think of it that way at all until you said this. I would not be putting out jokes like this when your 10 years into development.

I hope it's a joke, but honestly it didn't really read like a joke and I'm guessing most people aren't going to "get it".

EDIT: I don't think this is a joke - people on Reddit are vehemently defending this as "well they have other people working on other aspects as well" blah blah. Unbelievable.

Okay that is making me laugh out loud. Clearly the Squadron 42 portion is still a long ways off if they still are dedicating people to such odd trivial things.

The FAQ also clarifies payment: a single, one-off purchase of the initial game will suffice. There will be no monthly fee. "Some in-game items may be available as microtransactions," the FAQ goes on to say, "but we will NEVER sell anything that can't be acquired through honest (and fun!) gameplay."
Lol, yeah.... Just 500 hours of gameplay vs spending $50 for a ship.

In before the announcement to move to UE5 (with ray tracing!)

With semi-irony. The sad part is it would be a better engine for all the open world environments that this game is supposed to have over CryEngjne. AND it’s designed to be able to seamlessly stream assets. I give it until the end of the year before we hear an announcement.

It won’t get them to release a game any sooner though. I think this “game” at best will be beta forever. And at worst just burns out into a pile of flames, gets sold for a song, and then gets released as a burning trash heap like DNF. I think it’s more likely we can mine asteroids in our own space ships IRL, before this thing ever finishes.

Whenever this comes out, the graphics won't look good and the technology will be dated. Graphics aren't everything but it is ironic because this is intended to not only play well (yet to be seen) but also have high quality production values.

Right. I’m aware of the intentions of Roberts to use cry engine as a reactionary measure due to the criticisms he received for previous games not having great graphics. And that he more or less shoe-horned an engine not designed for flight or vast scenes/areas to do so.

I also agree this carbuncle will never release and look current. Which is part of the reason why I basically expect that an engine switch will happen at some point. This thread is 10 years old. In the race to stay relevant and cutting edge and continuing to balloon the budget and push out the release: it’s more or less expected that he’ll move to another engine eventually.

He can’t actually complete anything. Bed sheet physics and deformation are more important than releasing a complete or fun game.

Yeah its crazy, I made post number 29 out of 18,877 in this thread back on the first page. May have just made more sense to build an engine from scratch given the needs of the game. But for all of Cryengine's faults, that is not the main problem. An engine switch would set this game back 2+ years at the minimum. Even other off the shelf engines would require a lot of work to get everything up and running.

lol - the new patch is so utterly broken half the folks out there can't go to the "show" - the entire damned city is missing.

Welcome to events in Star Citizen :D
Although a workaround if you really want to go see ILW and the show room and stuff, use an EU or AUS server. I had no issues wandering around last night to go see the first day of the show and visit the flying fleet.
I assume the server clusters in EU/AUS arent being as overworked as the US ones are. I know the US servers had ques for a while yesterday which is why I went to EU.
Doing events in this game is neat, and they show great stuff to newcomers.
But doing events in this game is not something any new comer is going to have the patience, knowledge, or skill to actually do without someone helping them - unless they get super duper lucky and everything just goes perfectly.
I do events because Im patient and know that it takes 47 tries to find a server thats working, 18 tries more to have the server not crashing during an event, and 1 try to see the glory.
Whats fun is I only slightly kid. And I still love this game.

Tomorrow I hope to be the proud owner of an Idris P if I get through the store during the limited release window and can use my store credit - which is an even more limited window before they sell out than the normal sale window for cash.
I like this game, and Ive spent a lot of money on it, but $1500 fresh cash is just too much :p I've spent a lot more than that, but slowly over time, doing upgrades $20-100 at a time.
