Have they fixed how awful just walking around is yet? And the jittery terrible performance?
I'm not even really bashing the game. I want to play it, but the jittery frame rates on a rx580 8gb and the fact that walking feels stupid stupid stupid slow make me uninstall this game every time I fire it back up.
It still baffles me how a game can mess up simple movement as bad as starcitizen.
don't we all my friend, don't we all. i cannot wait for the day me and my friends can finally start our own crew.Although I ended up getting far too involved with Elite Dangerous, I am still secretly hoping that Star Citizen will someday be a complete game.....
A lot of silly assumptions.
A. I was obviously talking about years from now, not when the project was started. If the game comes out in 2021, it is irrelevant whether the project began in 2013 or 2003.
B. 15-20% progress is something pulled out of your ass and means nothing.
C. $6000 is another number pulled out of your ass, as that has absolutely nothing to do with backing the game early. The implication that paying $6000 was some sort of requirement is nonsense. People can choose to throw money at whatever they want in this world. You could have paid $30 during the kick-starter to get a game account. Even with inflation, that person would still have the game cheaper in 2021 than bought for retail $60.
D. There have been for years very fun aspects of the game to play such as Arena Commander and Star Marine.
I'm afraid you have that backwards. I for one feel terrible for giving them any money at all. And not because of the lack of progress, that was always a gamble. But for how they're spending the money, mostly on PR, lies and vaporware, and for how unprofessionally the development is handled. Those haters that pay 60, wouldnt have the game if it wasnt for the people they are having the "last laugh" at. So i think they would just be laughing to themself because at that point every major backer would feel even better about thier decision to help.
I don't find the development process unproffessionable personally but the biggest factor why the game is in the situation it is now is that the game has like 10x more technology than your typical game, it really wants to be able to support just about everything that's needed to simulate a real world experience, it really goes far when it comes to microdetails and I keep hearing only more and more technology is in the work as the project is worked on, it seems like a never ending story as Chris has put the bar so high for how many features he wants in the game. At some point you just have to say, look that would be cool to have and all but let's just finish what we already have going.
My biggest criticism regarding the development at this point is how far behind basic gameplay mechanics are, the gunplay for example, horrendous! It's not anywhere near a modern FPS gaming title. There's very noticeable lag when shooting, there's an obvious lack of "impact" feel to it when shooting (comes down both to sound, firing animations as well as animations on the target side of things that are subpar at the moment). Not to mention the AI...
LOL, the kraken is going to cost thousands. "Extremely limited supply" "Premier event" "one per person!"
Congratulations. You have been selected for Wave 7 of our exclusive Kraken premier event. Due to an overwhelming number of applicants, an extremely limited hull supply, and the importance of game balance in the universe, availability is at a premium. Kraken pledges are limited to one per person.
This is no simple ship, it's a game changer. It's not for everyone. To captain a Kraken is to captain the future itself. But you have the rare chance to prove you're up to the task. That you will use this formidable dreadnought as a positive force to secure a brighter tomorrow for us all. Ship Q&A will be posted before the end of the promotion.
Your wave begins Sunday October 21st 00:00 UTC. It continues through October 31st at 06:59am UTC. Pledging options are first-come-first-serve, so if you want to captain the helm of a bold and hopeful future, get in now.

I'm on Wave5 talking myself out of melting a whole bunch of smaller ships to get it since I already have an Idris-M for the org which is a far better military ship.Uhh dont remind me. I've been kicking my self about missing the registration for the kraken, looks so badass!
Yeah, stupid people waiting to pay when the project is actually finished and proven worthy, instead of supporting fund wasting and overall project mismanagement of a P2W pipe dream from a failed game developer and movie maker. The joke will be on them, surely.
Pretty sure Star Citizen doesn't have 75% of what's shown in that video
1. Based on the state the project is in, decades is more appropriate than years. It's one thing that you'd lie to yourself, but don't lie to others. I'm not saying you're lying as you don't have the facts. The lying is already done, you (meaning fans) just repeat the lies.
2. No, it is my professional (and very generous) assessment based on observing the progress they made in the demo, which I check out every 6-8 months to beamazedappalled. Supported by years spent with VFX and VG professionals, and myself having some experience with coding and designing games, although I haven't been doing that for years. Which might change, as there is an emerging convergence between my current profession and the VG industry.
3. It's not a common number but it's not unheard of either. It is a point where you can't afford to admit defeat, you must keep the fire burning or admit your utter stupidity of giving away that money for concept art.
4. I've seen them, and they don't fit my definition of fun. They were terrible, barely tacked together garbage for the most part. If you take cryengine sdk, two artists and a coder, they can come up with star marine in approximately 2-3 months.
And that last fact is the worst part for me. Because I see the project for what it is. And it is so frustrating when fans like you are so misguided that they think this is the most revolutionary game ever, and what cr&co are doing is really ground breaking.
Yeah, only your opinion is a fact, right?I love people that state their opinions as "facts".
It is all suspended in a void. There is nothing to do in the game, apart from try out a few mechanics, that are in of themselves aren't groundbreaking at all. And most of these mechanics are developed to placeholder level, and not polished enough.Uh, yes it does. I've done most of that myself. THAT IS THE POINT. No other game even comes close to what you can do in a pre-alpha tech state of SZ. That says volumes.
Yeah, and you base that on what?If you are a "professional", you must be very bad at your job.
LOL, so you as a complete outsider to development can tell, that the game is on the right track. And everything they say and do is 100% gold. But me because I choose a different profession than game development after being in it for a year or so, with friends who are still active at AAA devs, I can't possibly have any idea on it? Are you seriously saying that?Someone who has "some experience coding and designing a game" (probably as bit of embellishment there), is critiquing the most ambitious and difficult game project easily by an order of magnitude over anything else before it
Again, based on nothing but your feelings. How can you judge that it is actually massive? And how can you measure that 5 years is nothing? I'm telling you 5 years compared to the progress shown in the current alpha is an eternity.5 years of development for such a massive undertaking is nothing.
I don't even have to guess because you just demonstrated that you're the type of person who doesn't even fully read or understand someone before trying to smear them:Arena Commander alone is easily the best space combat simulator ever. Hardly terrible, tacked together garbage. But let me guess, you are one of those "professionals" who watched a 3 minute video on it.
the demo, which I check out every 6-8 months
Let me see, Star Trek Online? Walk around in a space station, check, get outside, check, fly around check, do ground battles, check, do space battles, check. It was a garbage game imo, but that's besides the point here. At least it was a game, and not a tech test platform which SC is currently. So tell me, if SC isn't groundbreaking, what other game can I start walking around in a space station, interact with other players, NPC's and the station, jump in my spacecraft, depart the space station, fly out into space, do ship to ship combat with another spacecraft, warp across the system to a moon, enter the atmosphere, fly around the entire moon, land on the moon, get out of my spacecraft, have first person shooter gameplay with other players who have also done everything I just said up until this point, hop back into your spacecraft, depart the moon's surface, fly into space, fly to a satellite, depart my spacecraft on a EVA run in my spacesuit, EVA inside the satellite, interact with the computer terminal, EVA back to my spacecraft, warp to an asteroid belt, mine an asteroid, get attacked by a pirate, warp back to the space station I started, land, walk to the bar for a drink. All with many other players in the universe, with no crashes and no loading screens, and you can do it RIGHT NOW.
Ya, NOTHING ground breaking there... Tell me the game that comes even within a mile of that and I'll start playing it.
What part of that wasn't true?I love people that state their opinions as "facts". If you don't think it would be ironic for someone to purchase a game they've bitched and complained about ad nauseum for years and after praying for a developer to fail, that is pretty laughable.
Other games are completed at that time, but SC does a couple of unique things and it's to be praised? And I'm being generous here, SC doesn't actually do anything as it doesn't exist. There is a tech demo build that has bits and pieces of a game. Any game developer could put out anything SC can do at this point in fraction of a time as it is the game as a whole that is complicated, not a feature here and there.Uh, yes it does. I've done most of that myself. THAT IS THE POINT. No other game even comes close to what you can do in a pre-alpha tech state of SZ. That says volumes.
I have had an ambition to be an astronaut since early childhood and I'm several decades into working on that ambition. If you are a "professional", you must be very bad at your job. Someone who has "some experience coding and designing a game" (probably as bit of embellishment there), is critiquing the most ambitious and difficult game project easily by an order of magnitude over anything else before it. 5 years of development for such a massive undertaking is nothing
The competition is staggering in that department. Let's see how many have tried in the past decade...1?Arena Commander alone is easily the best space combat simulator ever. Hardly terrible, tacked together garbage. But let me guess, you are one of those "professionals" who watched a 3 minute video on it.
Should I list all the things you can do in all the games out there that you can't in SC? There are probably a million, maybe a billion of them. I guess that makes them that much better too. Should I google for a tech demonstration that does some unique thing in a 3D computer environment? Guess what, it would have two things in common with SC: it would have a unique feature and it wouldn't be a game.So tell me, if SC isn't groundbreaking, what other game can I start walking around in a space station, interact with other players, NPC's and the station, jump in my spacecraft, depart the space station, fly out into space, do ship to ship combat with another spacecraft, warp across the system to a moon, enter the atmosphere, fly around the entire moon, land on the moon, get out of my spacecraft, have first person shooter gameplay with other players who have also done everything I just said up until this point, hop back into your spacecraft, depart the moon's surface, fly into space, fly to a satellite, depart my spacecraft on a EVA run in my spacesuit, EVA inside the satellite, interact with the computer terminal, EVA back to my spacecraft, warp to an asteroid belt, mine an asteroid, get attacked by a pirate, warp back to the space station I started, land, walk to the bar for a drink. Yeah, it's best you keep your head in the sand. Reality is a bitch.Star Trek online? Loading screens don't mean anything? SC does a couple of unique things? Wow, the technical and development challenges of designing this game universe over what currently exists is completely over your peoples heads. I've heard about the SC trolls and not to engage with them but this is truly laughable and a pointless waste of time.
I installed this again - wanted to see what the current status was. Definitely have added a lot since I last played, but the performance for me is god-awful. I've seen other people running better, is there something I'm missing? I'm talking constant stuttering and sub-30 FPS most of the time.
The massive performance gains are in 3.3 which is currently in the PTU and is open for everyone. Go to your account settings and copy your account over, you will get an email with a download link for the PTU launcher(separate install than the regular game launcher), run that launcher and it will download and install the PTU (separate install than the Live game).I installed this again - wanted to see what the current status was. After jumping to a moon spool the quantum drive again and all the outposts marker will light up. You can then calibrate and jump directly to them (you end up about 20-60Km away) just like when you jump to a moon.Other than that, I wish there was a way to travel to planet surfaces faster. Even when you Quantum jump as close as you can, it still takes forever to fly down to the surface. Either that, or have some sort of auto-pilot to the nav locations. Currently it's a bit tedious.
I also wasn't able to find any missions or contracts so there really wasn't much to do. Kind of ran around for a bit, flew around for a bit to a couple different planets, then got bored when I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to be doing.
That kraken is $1650. So of course it is selling like hot cakes, $300k raised just yesterday.
There is always someone more gullible, right?I use things like this to make myself feel better about buying a tank or ship in WoT/WoWS
And it works.
How anyone can say this is not pay to win still is nuts. If this ever comes out on day one you will have people flying around in the largest ships. Just think if eve back in the day did this where you could buy dreds and carriers and what not. That kraken is $1650. So of course it is selling like hot cakes, $300k raised just yesterday.
The redefined what pay-to win means. They say everything you can pay for can be attained by playing the game: Therefore not pay to win.How anyone can say this is not pay to win still is nuts.
