BTW I've heard that CIG is using the engine Lumberyard from AWS for the game... that's a change I wasn't aware of.

Yah, they switched over earlier this year and now seem to be only using AWS for the back end. Used to be using both it and Google's cloud. Seems like CIG and Amazon gobbled most of the good bits of crytek at this point and only a shell is left now.

Ortwin Feyermouth, CIG's co-chairman is also its general counsel. He's an entertainment industry lawyer and film producer with decades of experience (Carlito's way, Das Boot, Lord of War). A running joke is that he finally has something to do after all these years lol.

He was also face scanned and made a quest giver NPC in the game, R.U.T.O. which you can find at Grim Hex

I am one of the harshest critics of CIG at times. However, I'm not sure Crytek has much of a case here. There is some merrit to Crytek's complaints but I'm not sure there is enough there to warrant a massive settlement in Crytek's favor. Certainly nothing that would be a game changer for either company. Crytek is basically dying and this is that nervous twitch that sometimes occurs after you shoot something in the head.

Pretty sure I wasn’t talking to you.

I accused him of shilling because his comment lacked nuance or any deeper discussion of the lawsuit. CIG is finished in all caps without a discussion of the actual criticisms you mentioned is shilling.

Oh great VirPil review video. Don't forget to check out their website (english version) - as they are actually working on a joystick especially for space sims like SC. They call it the Constellation! It will differ from their existing MongoosT-50 grips and is still in development of course, but I get the impression that you can always swap to another grip if you wish which will work on the same base. I'm also very curious as to the difference between the Virpil MongoosT-50 grip and the very similar VKB-Sim MCG Pro ; the layouts are very nearly the same on the grips themselves. I wonder how similar the actual joystick bases between VKB Gunfighter and Virpil too? Also, I see both VKB and Virpil have developed Throttle products (though there is only a picture on Virpil's site of their offering; VKBs shows a placeholder graphic I think), so those that want a HOTAS vs Dual Stick setup will also have an option. Oh, and though Virpil's Constellation space sim grip is the first pictured on the site, I hear that VKB is working on a "Kosmosim" grip o their own!

I hear lots of great things from these sticks but given their considerable cost ( Each stick alone is around $300+) I will want to be sure I'm buying the best!

Oh its also worth noting that several years ago CIG was in talks with Saitek to build next generation Star Citizen joysticks. Alas, this was before Saitek was bought out by Logitech who pretty much wasn't interested in that kind of new product. At the time, only Saitek (compared to Thrustmaster and CH) was interested in really iterating on the design, especially for the high end variant, but maybe with new companies that have formed in the past few years like Virpil, CIG will have better partners for such an endeavor.

Hmm I've been bouncing back and forth between thoughts of HOTAS and dual joysticks. Can't really find any solid arguments for one versus the other. I'm using Saitek X-65F which is the last force sensing stick produced as far as I know. I prefer force sensing versus manual movements. These dual VirPil look interesting. Curious if the Constellation has enough buttons to truly keep the hands only on the sticks.

Really, it comes down to personal preference and the particular setup/sticks you have. Some people prefer the additional function/potential of a second stick, but they usually have somewhere to bind their + / - thrust ; I've actually seen pedals used for thrust, where twist-accessible sticks allow roll / strafe on that axis. If you like force sensing, I'm honestly unsure if there are many others left - though I know that some of the high end stick/bases can have multiple tension and throw adjustments that can make it so that very small movements can work. Oh by the way, VirPil has just recently announced a new "WarBRD" stick system that is meant to be a bit more affordable compared to their T-50 platform. You're right that the current mockup of the Constellation Delta has less buttons/functions compared to their MongoosT-50 grip (which if I am correct is, much like the VKB MCG Pro, based on the latest Russian Sukoi fighter stick), but know that the Delta is still being tuned/tweaked based on user feedback and that there will be a whole line of Constellation sticks! The Delta is the least complex I think , so other variants will most certainly replicate the at least the amount of buttons and features of the T-50. One think I really hope to see on both the stick and the throttle are analog thumbsticks in addition to digital hats - I can see they can really be useful for a number of functions in Star Citizen as well as games like Elite: Dangerous and other sims. I'm really beginning to lean towards VirPil the more I read as it seems they're developing at a reasonable pace and giving out information on their progress etc... when it seems VKB is being a bit more tight lipped about it and from what I've read had trouble even fulfilling current orders etc. Of course, if I learn of any reason why VKB has an overall superior product I'd rather get the best and wait, but thus far I've not seen evidence of such a thing.

Regarding the patcher crashes, do you have access to the 3.0 PTR as of yet? I know they've allowed more in recently. There is a new patcher for 3.0 so it would be a good way to see where the error may be. When your patcher crashes, when does it do so? Upon opening, before finishing patching, when patching, at launch etc..? Is there any error listed? I'll have to double check the particulars but I believe there is a patch log that may be of some help. Have you made any changes in hardware or drivers recently when this started happening? Edit: I assume you may have already tried reinstalling the patcher/client but if you haven't, as noted below that is a good idea. It may help to check out the Tech Support forums and Spectrum chat; there are often volunteers there that can offer live help. Likewise, any bug/crash reports can be sent to the right people. If all else fails, you can always write into CS and they set you on the right path. Hope you can play again soon!

Dual joystick is going to be superior 'cause it allows you full 6 degrees of control, the learning curve is higher but once you master it you'll never go back. For now though I keep mine disconnected 'cause they are iterating controls in the PTU and binds change often.

Try reinstalling the launcher, download it from here: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/download and just install over what you already have (you won't have to redownload the game).

I found out what was causing my patcher crashes. Freaking RTSS on screen display. Don't ask me why! The silly sutff you run into..

Ya I like the VirPil stuff, none of it has twist though eh? So really it is only 4-axis and you must use digital hats etc for some other axis...

Is it true all the best dog-fighters on the leader-boards use KB/mouse and aim is king? They have laser-analog 0-255 sensing keyboards now which could be interesting...

I have to think that 99% of people that were going to get a refund already did. With 3.0 in fairly large distribution the amount of game to be had for the near future is pretty much known and not really a surprise to anyone that's been paying attention. That said, you can never fully plan for drama queens.

So they've added interdiction missions and random encounters as you travel in the game. In a nutshell you get pulled out of quantum jump by pirates and get to fight them. If you win there's wreckage with cargo boxes to collect and sell for profit or you can run away as well if you are overwhelmed. I was doing a mission and got pulled out to see a battle between half a dozen pirates against about the same number of security ships. It was pretty fun and hectic but I didn't stay long since the mission I was doing had a timer.

There are also some random enviromental events and encounters like derelict asteroids passing near Port Olisar. There are a few other things other people haven mentioned but I have yet to see them myself.

My star citizen looks and feels just like it did for almost two years. Basically nothing has happened in two years with 2.x. When is 3.0 coming out for us regular guys?
