Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

Never thought about it, but its not like hiring an npc crew member would be that big of a deal and to just tell them to focus on your target, wont that essentially just have the same effect? except they can also be told to protect your rear as well so i don't see why slaving it is even required.

the ship also sounds horribly shielded and armored so its a glass cannon.

I like the look but almost wonder if they made it so strong that they had to make it so weak. With how 2.6.1 is still borked damage wise I'm wary of picking up anything weaker. My Super Hornet still goes up in one shot from time to time and I think its shooting itself as well as going down way to easily IMO. I know we can add new weapons but the stock thing was called super for a reason damnit.

Very torn on the Hurricane, think I'll have to pass for now though.

It just seems like a more military minded avenger to me, wasnt very impressed by its stats either.

When I first walked out onto the landing pad the ring was heading towards me like a wheel about to run me over. I was truly freaked out and ran back inside the tunnel/walkway 'cause I thought it was actually gonna crush and kill me lol, kinda like the alien ship from Prometheus crushed Vickers.

Speaks to the realism- on a decent screen this already feels so good, immersion-wise...

Melted my Sabre Comet and Hornet Wildfire, lack of armor and shield nerf really hurt these ships and if the regular Hornet line ever gets the armor I might rebuy Wildfire (really like this skin). I picked up a Hurricane and once I get a buyback token I'll get my Super Hornet again.

While the hornet feels better in 2.6.1 its still got some weakness issues. Admittedly I am not the best pilot but 2.5 I could get through all the ICC missions and more without getting a scratch unless a multi crew came by and then it could get a bit tricky.

Now though I'm lucky if I only get blown up 3 times. The AI ships and self damaging turret issues aside the ship just does not feel "super" at all. I can liken it to going from the stock hornet up to the super, and then having to give back the super for the stock.

The next patch which EFT should be testing starting on either today or sometime next week is 2.6.2 which finally adds network serialization and megamaps to multiplayer (its friggen awesome in single) and adds odd resolution screen support finally. Also, FreeFly this weekend with access to the Aegis Saber through Tuesday, March 4.

And then go here to get access to the FreeFly using the code, PAXEAST2017

I've been spending quite a bit of time in game since 2.6.1 launched. Vanduul swarm co-op is fun as hell and it runs like a dream, really smooth. I also hang out a lot at Area 18 giving new backers a tour of what they can do (actually that reminds me I have to invite a few people to the org).

Recently, though, I've been playing Path of Exile 'cause the new league launched last weekend.

New Zelda is out lol, I'm getting pretty close to pulling the trigger on a 1080 Ti looking at waiting for the MSI Seahawk, so I'll probably get more into this once 3.0 hits.

I was informed that this game is due out this year? According to the sources in this thread.....

How does it feel to be part of an elaborate scam? 6 years and still no game. Oh, but theres Alpha content! Must be close, right?

Feels good man. Glad you're concerned about us. Don't lose any more sleep though.

wow 6 years. 3.0 update soon™. Feels good so far. plan to CCU my constellation to aquila. space rover

BoredGamer visited Foundry42 UK and talks about what he saw. He couldn't talk about everything they showed him due to spoilers (he signed an NDA).

Quick summary:

Bengal carrier done
Idris done
Javelin finishing it up
Banu MM whitebox
Razor racer whitebox
Vanduul ships are all in an advanced state of completion (Driller is about 2 Kilometers long, so twice as large as the Bengal carrier)
Organizations can setup a default/custom paintjob scheme for their member's ships. You can also add Decals from a set of pre-approved ones, custom Decals might be possible down the line.
Moons of Stanton (Yela, Celling, Daymar) all look distinct. The procedural terrain tech in its current state looks significantly better than the 3.0 demo.
Outposts and room system. Oxygen, pressure being modeled realistically. If you open an airlock the atmo in that room will get sucked into the other room and balance out
Asteroid mining system being worked on for 3.0

Server tick rate looks like it will be at 30, twice as fast as large MMOs like H1Z1 which run at 16 and 3 times faster than WoW 10. They are focusing now on increasing the number of players at that tick rate.

P.S: The footage from the video is stitched together as background B-roll from recent Around the Verse episodes so some of it might already be outdated compared to what he actually saw.

Great ATV this week with the UK update early on and the ship porn at the end. Stuffed a lot of good stuff in that update without dragging it on and making you want more to peak interest.

Some of the end shots looked like a benchmark test for SQ42 or something the way they played out.

And from the lastest newsletter: Outpost on the surface of Yela

SneakPeek_Yela.jpg

For some reason I never thought Yela would have an atmosphere. Looking at it in game right now it's as barren and scarred by meteor impacts like our own moon.

Star Citizen will use Vulkan as the primary rendering API. This is fantastic news.

Years ago we stated our intention to support DX12, but since the introduction of Vulkan which has the same feature set and performance advantages this seemed a much more logical rendering API to use as it doesn't force our users to upgrade to Windows 10 and opens the door for a single graphics API that could be used on all Windows 7, 8, 10 & Linux. As a result our current intention is to only support Vulkan and eventually drop support for DX11 as this shouldn't effect any of our backers. DX12 would only be considered if we found it gave us a specific and substantial advantage over Vulkan. The API's really aren't that different though, 95% of the work for these APIs is to change the paradigm of the rendering pipeline, which is the same for both APIs.

A developer doesn't want to restrict their user base to only one minority version of one OS?

This is great news. All it is going to take is a few high profile Vulkan titles to finally tip the scale enough to knock down Microsoft's API wall and open up cross platform gaming.

SC is now a title I'll start playing. My friend has been bugging me to fly with him in SC so I'll see what the fuss is about. I'll admit I have talked a lot of shit about this game, but this changes everything.

Not forcing users to migrate to W10 is a good thing I think. Still a lot of W7 gamers out there that simply do not want W10.

I'm one of em. I want some of the benefits from 10 but I do not want to have to kill everything the stupid OS does in the background to not send everything I do to MS or get updates forced on me. I keep 7 updated just fine thank you MS, just on my schedule one every time I boot up.

My HTPC and Wife's Laptop were just worthless until I killed all that stuff through a program. Now they run decently.

Plenty of others with no real need to upgrade yet so good on CIG for not "forcing" something unnecessary.

This is one of those games where DX11 probably just is not going to scale so it makes sense that they would drop the support for it in the future. I wonder when we'll get the first version with Vulkan renderer.

I love the new Cutlass, I hope I didn't make a mistake CCUing one of my three Dragonfly for one.

No Cutlas in today's ATV, Disco_Lando trolled us but they did show the new female model

Also, check your emails, 2.6.2 PTU invites have gone out to evocati and 1st wave testers. Just got mine a couple hours ago.

So your MS hatred trumps your Chris Roberts hatred by that much? :D

Although seriously, you don't want cross platform play. You should have an idea of what that means for most AAA studios. Outside of CD Project and a few other studios, it will do much more harm than good.

Buccaneer is really nimble. Did a few laps around Olisar and some ICC missions and it's pretty easy to black out so it takes a bit of finesse to fly, which was unexpected for a Drake ship (at least to me). Quad gimbaled and 2 fixed guns is also going to take some practice to get the most out of. All in all I really like it.

*SNIP*

I nicknamed her the "Buck", cause she is sexy as hell and is one hell of a ride (Starbuck was under consideration). On a side note, she is slightly less maneuverable (fast as hell) then a Gladius, but puts any damage output it has to shame. If the C-788 Combines were actually working is would be OP as fuck and the size 1 hard points make stuff like the non-Vanduul Neutrons (with slower ballistics) and the Sucker Punches viable as hell (faster ammo speed weapons). RS and 11th (top pilot groups in game right now) seem to be in agreement that the ship even in current state (no Combines and shield bug) is still OP. Oh and it come with 4xs2 Rattlers, YES!

Hope they don't nerf it too much, it felt just right to me. This is the first proper Drake single seat fighter and it will be going head to head with the likes of the Super Hornet, Gladius and Sabre.
Most people judge ships by their performance in AC which to me is truly myopic as the game does not/will not revolve around close quarters arena combat. I look at ships from the angle of how they will perform as part of a full fleet in the PU.

P.S: Yeah the thing is fast, 220 SCM and 710 Afterburner.

I think that this ship should be a good reason to revisit the Gladius, a full fletched military fighter in the same class, totally out gunners.

Fast, nimble, expodes real nice. Great Drake ship. I'm ok with it outgunning the Gladius as it's supposed to be an older ship and the Buck is new.

Yes, thinking about timelines makes a lot of sense as well. The UEE will be getting both the F7A and the F8 Lightning.
