No, I'm just a fan (with a bit of hype) passing along info I see here and there. I'm sure I'm not the only one following the game closely.

As far as the name lol, if there was a ship named like that I would make it a point to blow it up into oblivion myself 'cause there can be only 1 Lorien in the universe. (sorry, nerd moment :D)

Speaking of blowing things up, ship weapons systems will not be live in the hangar module. You will be able to mount weapons onto your ship(s) but won't be able to fire them.

This is probably not a smart thing to do, but will weapons be active for the hangar release? :D
Absolutely....not! I'm not spending all that time building the hangar so you can blow it up and punch laser blast holes through the whole thing then ask us to give you a new one. :p

I kinda figured as much, would be a bit weird to be firing off missiles in your own hunger/house. would be cool to have a range to test out small arms (i wanta shoot my crossbow) :D

When is this game even coming out? A year? 2 years? Kind of insane that people are throwing actual money at something they never played and have no guarantee will actually ever ship.

Some People would rather throw their money at a worthy idea than pay 60 bucks on a half assed console port from some shitbox dev that is ruled by their publishers, which couldn't care less about the actual game.

hanger alpha: end of august
dogfight alpha: December
social alpha: some time after that.
single player game: early to mid 2014 (i think)
persistent world beta: end of 2014
persistent worl:d early to mid 2015 (i think)

so we will be able to see and experience the game as it comes along.

not 100% on those dates since they are just off the top of my head but i think they are fairly close.

chris roberts has an excellent reputation. also this is possibly one of the more ambitious games that have been made in recent history it has immense potential. youre right to think its a gamble.. but it will definitely ship. considering he estimated the game to be what he wanted at 20 million its still has a year is 75% of the way

That and if he flakes off, the community is so invested in this, there is no place the guy could hide on this planet where the lynch mob wouldnt find him.

my issue right now is that there are a number of games that I backed that have similar release schedules. I am worried about how much time I will have haha.

Yeah, sorry, but two other kickstarters I'm waiting for (Grim Dawn and Planetary Annihilation) aren't even in the back seat for me now that I know about Star Citizen.

Frankly I just don't care about them anymore.

Grim Dawn, Planetary Annihilation, Project Eternity and Torment: ToN... First world problems indeed. I'm so happy there are games that are finally being made like this.

You will need a DirectX 11 capable card.

An nVidia GeForce 400 class or better, Or an AMD Radeon 5000 class or better.
The minimum specification is estimated at equivalent perfomance to a nVidia GeForce 460, although better cards should see better lighting and more detail.
Oh and it was confirmed that the whole reveal event in Germany will be livestreamed.

nice find. it will be more interesting to see how the dogfighting module runs.. since the hangar is pretty easy to run its not very complex

I chose to have 3 accounts. 1st for clan/intoxi ops, 2nd for pirating/doingverybadthings (not to ruin my 1st account), and 3rd for scouting/infiltrating/cloak ops and mainly for multi-boxing.

Since the debut for the hangar will be at Gamescon, that should be Saturday, August 24th in the AM for us in the USA. I'm hoping we'll be able to access our hangars soon after this.

Ya i hope it comes out the weekend of gamescon. though i expect the hanger app to basicaly get DDOS's for about 12-18 hours after is launched.

Multi-boxing seems like it would be a huge pain. well flying at the same time would be.

yeah mulitboxing sounds pretty impossible. since the flying will be pretty skillfull from what i understand.

I can kind of see multi-boxing with two identical ships, right up until your target moves so they are all in a line and you're shooting yourself in the ass. I guess you could also fly escort for your own cargo/mining ship maybe.

Not sure how viable multi-boxing will be but the accounts are there, just in case.

I know they're going to have easy-mode flying for kb/m users and auto-pilot mentioned here and there in the official forums including full control for the HOTAS/advanced flying pilots. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

It may be beneficial to scout ahead like you do in Eve if you're flying a trading vessel someplace. This would be dependent on how the instancing system works though. Also, with AI gunners you could bring a turret ship or some type of logistics ship/hauler for additional DPS or loot recovery during PVE encounters.

i think multi boxing will be counter productive in some situations. not every situation. but some.

like if a certain encounter is ment to be balanced to your squadren/group of ships instead of only encountering 1 or 2 vanduul scouts alone you in a hornet and your automated connstellation could run into an Ai Squadren of 3 or 4 scythes and a vanduul variant of the connie. and in the end multi boxing might make some encounters against AI overly challenging to try and solo.

I doubt multiboxing will be effective at all. People forget that this game is true 3d with 6 degrees of freedom.

Other games have your character(s) walking on a 2d plane with objectives strewn along that 2d plane which makes it infinitely easier to control. Not so for a space flight sim where every ship in a formation has a completely different set of maneuvers to stay in that formation. Exhaust from your engines has an effect on shields/systems as well, so having them all in a duck line or clumped together might not be a good idea.

The autopilot is only to travel between systems/planets where no combat takes place. When you are running an instanced mission you have to actually fly the ships. You will not be able to autopilot your way through a mission. And having A.I. control your other ships is technically not true multiboxing since you are not in direct control of each character/ship and how effective that will be will depend on how good the hired NPC A.I. can get.

yes. the skill ceiling will be high because of this

Eh? I was routinely concurrently running 3 accounts in EVE Online for fleet ops (i.e. Dread, Carrier, and Command ship for bonuses). For mining ops as many as 6 concurrent accounts. Even for roaming ops I'd run two accounts, one being a cloaky scout or cloaky long distance ECM and the other the dps ship.

Obviously you cannot reliably control two ships at once during dog-fighting situations, but outside of that multiboxing will be king. If I end up actually playing the game I fully expect that I will have numerous accounts and that I will be using at least some of them concurrently in one operation.

SC is not EVE. Flying is not point and click.

I hope this game is as multi-box unfriendly as possible. I'm not convinced that 75% of the 'active pilots' in EVE aren't alts. It really kills the whole multiplayer aspect when it's easier to create or purchase an alt instead of relying on other people to perform certain roles.

Last time I played EVE it felt like people wanted to turn it into a giant single player universe where the only desired interaction with other people is when you're looking for someone to gank - only to realize there's no one to gank because there's an alt on every major gate to alert people 5 jumps out. No one does missions in groups, or exploration, or deadspace sites. It's all done by the same guy with a combat ship being followed by his scanning / exploration alt and repair / logistics alt. Same thing with mining, I've seen the same guy running 20+ accounts to strip an asteroid belt clean because the game doesn't require enough user interaction.

Proliferation of alts is just bad for the health of a game as it allows players to circumvent a majority of player interaction. This growing trend to turn MMO's into single player games with an auction house is very concerning and defeats the whole purpose of MMO's. (see: SWG, WoW, etc)

Sadly there's no way this will ever change for EVE because such a large percentage of CCP's revenue stream is generated by alts.

TSRH

The whole point of the game is dogfighting while being inside your ship and controlling the action first person. There wasn't even going to be a 3rd person perspective except a bunch of people whined about it and they said they'd consider it. I'm hoping they don't.
Forced first person would also make it very hard for the game to be botted as you'd have to actually be there tending to your ship's radar when playing a mission instead of just casually flying visually scanning your flight path.

Then plan is for it to happen just like Wing Commander - you can switch to a third-person 'beauty camera' view if you want to admire your ship and watch combat happening... but you won't get a HUD or anything like that.

Sort of, you can hire a crew to man your battle stations. so you set one multi-crew ship on a course and let the guns blast via hired crew. If I have multiple multi-crew ships I can provide protection to myself, at least from smaller groups. The larger ships aren't going to be piloted like fighters.

Likewise any kind of cloaking system will give rise to multiple scout alts that will be parked at relevant locations.

Trading is another thing that will definitely give rise to alts and multi-boxing. Running your own freighter with some support, or doing exploration on one screen/account while trade runs on another.

I think it's fairly unusual for players to only have a single account in MMOs these days.

Jeez, does having fun figure in your gaming or is fun just a distraction?

Unusual?

The majority of people will not "multi-box."

Most people will (and do) only play one character, because they are playing it to have fun and either don't want to have to use two computers or do they want to have m ultiple subscription costs.

I have played mmo's since UO and I have never once mulit-boxed in on and I never will. Multiboxing isn't "fun" to me and in turn to many people it ruins a game, it's like playing an MP shooter only to fight against bots, it defeat sthe entire point of playing an MMO when you're playing with one guy controlling an entire party or multiple characters, takes you right out of the experience.

The only game i have seen loads of Multi-boxing in is eve. the majority of other mmo's don't have very many Multi-boxers. i played wow for quite a while, and only ever saw 3 or 4 Multi-boxers.

but i don't see this as being a problem in SC. just think, what other flight sim would Multi-boxing be beneficial or even possible.
