The best chance this has at being finished is if someone buys Roberts out of it.

Went in for 35bucks waaaay back but not holding my breath.

I reinstall it about once a year to see what’s new. After a few sessions I’m over it and on to other things.

Roberts has already pulled that scam once. I also believe him pulling the same scam a second time was always his plan. I am sure he planned to find a Sony or EA or some other sucker a few years back already. Unfortunately for the gamers that got taken by this one... and I guess Roberts. The industry is run by a fairly small group of people that all well remember what he did to Microsoft.

I'm $60 in. I got a crappy Mustang and SQ42. I'm putting my Star Citizen account into my Will so my children's children will enjoy the game on release.
Make sure you setup a trust with appropriate controls that will limit their ability to sink massive amounts of money into their inherited account before actual release. :D

I would say its already surpassed that mark. All the other titles with 100m+ budgets are counting marketing funds in the cost of production. It would seem based on this... Roberts hasn't spent anything on real marketing yet.
True but he hasn't needed to really due to fanatics who want Freelancer Pt. 2. Other than enough cash for the CitizenCons. The game isn't even in beta stage or a real alpha where you aren't constantly adding in new features you just thought up and you're having game conventions all to sell digital ships. A fucking convention for a game/product that isn't even a proper finished released product. It boggles the mind.

Wish they had focuaed on a 2-3 year updated free Lancer/wing commander type project instead. By the time star citizen exists I'll barely care.

Apocalypse, survival, and even now my space and old west imagination have been well scratched last few years.

What hasn't been scratched is my underwater sea quest. Subnautica only aroused my appetite with possibilities.

Waterworld and Arctic poles/ice worlds would also be a fun new genre.

If I could wish a game into existence it would be a cross between witcher 3 and Oregon trail.

With the continued cashflow of this project, I would expect they'd have little trouble finding a buyer. But a big publisher would mean hard deadlines and creative control, and I don't think Roberts is ready to admit he can't deliver.

Because this will be the death knell of his career.

The original plan was for a Wing Command type game, Squadron 42, to be made and released first. Everything else was supposed to follow that and be at least partially funded by sales of Squadron 42. It would have been the easiest and quickest part to do but then they went full stupid and tried to turn every part of it into a single MMO style game which will never be finished in a state worth playing.

The game was meant to be released incrementally. Everyone needs to keep this in mind anytime mention of this game comes up because it effectively proves how much of a clusterfuck the game has turned into.

I don't know do you think say EA could still count on new donations if they where to buy Cimp and take over. I somehow doubt it. Once a big publisher was on board the donations would end.

After the last update of Alpha 3.3 its surprising to see the amount of positive news, posts, and articles along with the fact that its base has grown even larger.\
lol - those invested in pyramid schemes never want to see them for what they are. "As long as the base grows I'll get my share"

I would love to be proven wrong, but without any external force (like a publisher and deadlines!) whether or not they ever ship anything remotely close to the original pitch is highly doubtful.

It's not like he doesn't have a history of not delivering unless someone just absolutely hits him over the head or takes over and completes it for him.

EDIT: It's OK to have creative with a philosophy like this:

You just can't have someone like that in charge as the boss!

That this investor is another scam movie studio run by some south african rich kid clearly spending the cookie his pops gives him... while likely sheltering a bit of taxable income for him. Is just the icing on the cake. I wonder how long i will be before this Roberts movie investor ends up in a jail cell. The last big movie investment firm Roberts dealt with it was around year 4 or 5 of their partnership.
OMG, I just figured out where they got their business model from!
