I am in the market for a Core2Duo motherboard that would be good for over clocking to 3gHz. I looked in the unofficial list, but you guys did not specify your favorite board.

It needs to support:
  • SATA2
  • on-board Audio
  • PCI-E

I am also in the market for a 939 SSF mobo. Is the mobo you listed in the unofficial thread the highest recommended for that socket?

It needs to support:
  • SATA2
  • FX 60
  • PCI-E

Thanks for any and all help.

Bob

I have an FX-60 cpu and I'm using an eVGA NF44 motherboard. It's working well for me, but it's not an overclocker. Very stable, haven't had any issues except for one minor problem with windows restart...haven't quite figured out if this is a Vista issue or a mobo issue, but I suspect mobo (when I restart from windows vista, it hangs at POST...then I press the reset button and it boots just fine).

See my sig for my build details. I am not using an SLI setup right now, but probably will once the nVidia drivers stabalize for Vista and the 8900 comes out.

IMO Do not get an FX 60 when you can get a new Brisbane 4000 or 3600 and get a decent board anf hit 3GHZ by o/cing and save a ton of cash.

Then sell your FX 60 on ebay. IMO there is no reason to keep that cpu. Sell it foe 300-350 and make 200-250$ profit.

Lets forget about the fx60 for now.
You guys got any recommendations for the two boards?

Thanks
Bob

I've been using the Biostar T-Force, its a pretty solid Board, but good luck finding one.

I'll sell you my favorites: C2D Foxconn G965 and S-939 eVGA NF-44 mATX Mobo's for a great price if you are interested ;)

Only negative is that neither are very good overclocker's.....

you can get 939 T-Forces on ebay for @ $99 all day.

I had one for a few months and it was awesome until i switched to the evga for SLi.

Dworley- You might have a deal is the prices are right.

Heres the deal.
For socket 939 I would like to be able to push it to 3ghz. So a 400mhz oc. Do you think the evga board would be able to handle that with some nice ram?
For the c2d I'm also looking for 3ghz, but as far as I've heard that is not hard to reach with some decent ram. Do you think the foxconn could handle that?

However I'm doubting it since you've owned both and said that isn't there strong point.

While surfing NE, I decided to pick some boards.

I haven't spent the time yet to looking into those chipsets, so if you have any opinion on them please tell.
Also if you have any opinions on heat sinks and fans that would be great.

Thanks for all the help.
Bob

Edit- For hsf I have my eye on this: Mind you this will be going in a Lian Li v300

That Silverstone CPU cooler won't fit in the V300.

The Thermaltake Blue ORB II worked well in my old V300 and it's quiet.
