Spotify Users Steamed Over Facebook Requirement

It would seem that you are now required to have a Facebook account to use Spotify. While that shouldn't be a big deal for Facebook users, I can see where it would piss off people that do not use the social networking site.

"You need a Facebook account to register for Spotify. If you have an account, just log in below to register. If you don't have a Facebook account, get one by clicking the 'create an account' link below."

Some sites have been doing that for awhile now. Just need to follow these instructions in order to make Facebook your site's log-in engine: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/guides/web/

Two advantages are 1. you won't need to create yet another account for yet another site, and 2. site webmasters won't need to deal with creating their own log-in engine.

Then again I'm a Facebook user and I don't get all the e-rage regarding it, so it's no biggie to me.

Nice...anyone want to wager a guess which music service I will never be using?

Just another unnecessary requirement. I was thinking about buying their 10 dollar but when I see stuff like this for products I was already on the fence about, I tend to avoid them. And thats what I'll do here.

I got burned on the YouTube / Google integration, now I can't be logged into both at once, but I have substantial content on mutually exclusive log-ins.

I really don't like this one log-in trend. It puts too much on the line for one account.

I read this on Engadget yesterday, went to check, and my Spotify account still works and I don't have it connected to facebook.

Huh, not sure what Spotify is but I'm pretty sure I can live without it.

Don't have a Facebook page either, but if it comes to it I'll just make a bogus page fill in the parts with bogus info, and list the email address to the hotmail account I never ever log into. I figure if you can't avoid them at least give them deceptive information.

that seems pretty stupid on Spotify's part

As someone that doesn't use social networks, I would never use this service for that reason alone. I recall a few iOS apps that required a facebook sign-in to use them. I instantly deleted it and went with another app from a different developer

I don't mind a service giving the user a choice to use facebook as a login, but making it a requirement is stupid. Not everyone uses those services, nor do they want to.

Oh well, it doesn't really bother me anyway... pandora FTW :)

Foobar plays audio files you've already downloaded. Completely different thing.

Yeah I realized I should have elaborated. I don't use any other music specific program or streaming service.

Spotify is heavily marketing on Facebook. They'd be plenty happy capturing a decent share of that marketplace and ignoring every power user out there...

Spotify is fucking great. If I needed to login by murdering a cute puppy I'd totally do it.

Yes I'm exaggerating, but seriously, anyone saying "Oh well, back to Pandora" clearly has never used Spotify.

Spotify really is worth it. It's fully worth paying for as well. I don't have my FB linked to it, but wouldn't care if I had to, I like it that much. I have a newborn and do you know how great it is to quickly get all the Rockabye Baby albums to play for her? Worth it.

Dumb requirement but whatever , 800 million plus people have Facebook accounts including me. Its not a big deal.

Still love Spotify.

Spotify is cool, it's very much like Zune Pass though a little cheaper though no 10 DRM tracks per month though of course Spotify is multi-platform. I don't have a problem with the FB requirement though I'm only using the free streaming for now since I have Zune Pass.

Pretty sure Steve's page is personal.

Not having much use for a Facebook account isn't the same as being a raging FB hater.

As long as I'm grandfathered in, I'll still use Spotify from time to time.

Man....you guys are really against facebook, its actually quite funny.

I can see why. Its become the source of so much damn drama that its not funny anymore. I hear half the shit my friends deal with on facebook, other friends of mine let me know what kind of mindless drivel some of my other friends post up, and I sincerely cannot recall the last time this shit ever happened pre-facebook. not even via email, instant messenger or internet forums. Somehow, some way, facebook just breeds and infects people with utter stupidity and nerd rage, and I'm glad I don't have a facebook page for myself because of it. I don't think slamming a door on my balls could compare to the sheer idiocy of the things I see posted or what friends of mine show me, and I wonder if that would feel better than the headache I get from just listening to what's been said.

And before you ask, yes, some of that shit probably made it to failbook.

Dont care a bit in the least, I use spotify while on the road during the week at work. And it is an absolutely beautiful thing. I do wish it would up date what I am listing to on my Droid2 to facebook.....instead of just from the desktop app. I hardly use the desktop app, almost entirely use the android app.

.....Facebook is bad, only if you dont know how to manage your privacy settings. All these new features thats been in the news, can be turned off.

...except for the new news feed....that one still kinda sucks.

Can't stand websites that do this. I have a facebook account but I never, ever login to a website that requires....I don't even log into facebook.

I have used Spotify and I like Pandora better.

Yahoo is pushing FB Connect like crazy too, it pops up a full screen ad every 5 minutes while reading the news.

Just make a facebook account for spotify or whatever other services decide to do this. Treat facebook as that site's account management engine.

so what facebook controls your whole online identity.. then they start charging money or BAN you for posting CP or Beastiality Gore Porn or something all us regular people like to put on people's walls... all of a sudden you no longer exist.. i dont like that.

so what facebook controls your whole online identity (in one place). then they start charging money or BAN you for posting CP or Beastiality Gore Porn or something all us regular people like to put on people's walls... all of a sudden you no longer exist.. i dont like that.

I agree (with the one online identity thing...lol)

(places newer 4 ply copper mesh hat on)

Kind of makes me feel like F**kFace.com and others are trying to acclimate us into having one online identity with our own IP address and 24/7 monitoring. Even fines for violations, over usage, and such implemented. I'm not sorry but our government and these private data mining corporations are really out of hand, seriously, period. I have things to hide, same as every other human does (to a degree anyway). Leave me and my natural universe given rights, personal info, likes and dislikes, pros and cons, turn ons and turn offs, the f**k alone!
