What chips convert any audio signal to this output if there are any? Just curious i messaged one mobo manufactor and they said the Realtek will only pass through a direct digital signal, so i was wondering if their are any chips or sound cards that will do this.

Can you clarify what you mean? You mean a onboard that will ENCODE audio from the PC and send it over the SPDIF? I am pretty sure there are a few onboards that will do Dolby encoding and/or DTS encoding. This feature is usually found in add-on soundcards and alot of soundcards while they offer Digital connections only pass through or produce 2 channel such as the X-fi line and do not offer true surround encoding.
 
Yeah i mean that will encode them to Digital. If so do you know what ones? Will my audigy 2 platinum do it? Also looking at getting a Mini itx board and having trouble finding on that has this feature on board.
