A while back, I picked up a console stereo at the local Goodwill, with the intention of gutting it, and turning it into a modern stereo/mp3 server with that original classic look (pics are offline for a few days while I change hosting providers). Anyways, some time ago, I asked about this project in the computer audio forum, and got some ideas and such for what to get in terms of speaker components. Based on that, here's what I'm thinking of getting (aside from some grille cloth, polyfill, and other uninteresting bits):

Tweeters (x2): http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=275-075&CFID=6044330&CFTOKEN=32503534

Woofers (x2): http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/psho...295-100&ctab=10&CFID=6044330&CFTOKEN=32503534

Crossovers (x2): http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=260-142&CFID=6044330&CFTOKEN=32503534

Subwoofer (x1): http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/psho...295-550&ctab=10&CFID=6044330&CFTOKEN=32503534

The part I'm having trouble deciding on, is the plate amp to pair with the sub. Here are the ones I was looking at:

http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?webpage_id=3&CATID=43&ObjectGroup_ID=505

Back when I started, there was a plate amp that had a "sub-panel"/remote thing that could be mounted elsewhere, and would have been really handy, but that has since been discontinued, and since I've not really come across a lot of plate amp reviews, I'm not sure what to go with.

I realize this should probably have peen posted on avsforum or some speaker specialty site, but, well...I already live here.

Anyone with relevant knowledge have any input on amp or other choices? Anything you would change? Don't want to go too expensive, since I have other components to purchase for this project as well.

Thanks in advance!

Figured I'd bump this once for the weekday crew that had last week off. If I don't get any bites, I guess I'll go make introductions over at AVS or somewhere.

Not many speaker builders over at the avs forums either btw, subwoofers yes, but not as many speaker builders for some odd reason. Definitely do some research over at diyaudio before finalizing your build, they're especially good at locating quality/inexpensive parts at obscure online dealers. Looks like some interesting projects you have there, have fun and good luck with the build.

I had a quick look over at diyaudio.com, and I don't even know where I would put a project like this over there. Since it sounds like you may have been there a time or two, can you give me a suggestion? Full range under Loudspeakers? Maybe I'll register and pm a mod.

With your project i'd probably post in their loudspeaker forum since the full-range forum seems to be filled with horn-related projects. I could be wrong though so PM'ing a mod may not be a bad idea.

You've had this for a year and a half and just started working on it now? :p

Anyways, I wonder how the sub will sound. Are you planning on building a box inside the console for it, and possibly the other speakers? To let you know, avs does have a DIY speaker forum as well.

Yeah, I had the desire...just not the fundage. Yes, I plan to build 3 separate enclosures within the console - L, R, and Sub, with the computer parts fitting around in the leftover open spaces. I did go register over at AVS, and might end up posting this there as well...If 2 opinions are better than one, maybe 3 are better than 2.
