Do you guys know of a way (application or site) that will allow you to run spam tests against your system? We have implemented some new filters, etc. for a client and want to see how well they are working...

There are ways to test your system as an open relay. Here are a few:
http://www.abuse.net/relay.html
Sam Spade
*http://www.auditmypc.com/freescan/readingroom/relay.asp
**http://www.ordb.org/submit/

* This is a manual test when you have much better tools at your disposal.
** Do not submit a machine you operate for testing here unless you are 100% certain it will pass. If it fails it will automatically be added to their blacklist.

i personally like the first and second tests. sam spade is an incredibly useful tool for more than just mail relay testing.

as for testing these filters for spam . . . . well you run them for a while and try to counthow many hams are getting blocked and how many spams are getting through and calculate the effectiveness of the filters based on that. IOW, the only test is to run them and see how well they perform.

That's what I figured, just wanted to see if there was anything out there that could send out SPAM as a test...

Wouldn't a valid evaluation be to compare amount of spam received after implementing the filter with the amount received before implementation? It won't be 100% accurate, but it should give you a good enough idea of how well the filter is working.

Absolutely, I was just curious if there was anything out there that would allow me to "see it in action", that's all...
