Are there any other space sims/space games that are similiar to Freelancer or Black Prophecy? Any mmo types out there?
 
EVE? Star Trek Online?

Nothing relatively recent or on the horizon as far as I know for single player.
 
I can't comment in relation to Black Prophecy, since I haven't played it.

The most recent game I can think of is Dark Star One, the combat plays similar to Freelancer (I think some of the early screens of it were rumored to be Freelancer 2). I found it quite fun as an more action oriented game.

In terms of space sims I've heard of, the most recent ones are Tarr and Shattered Horizon, but I can't comment on how good they are. Futuremark is also making another space sim I believe.
 
I forgot about X3, funny since I own it, never did get very far. Need patience....
 
Nothing has really come close to Freelancer IMO :( still waiting for someone to buy the rights etc for the second game i live in hope lol

if you want a semi realistic space flying game/sim with realistic effects like gravity and atmospheric effects you might want to check out Kerbal space program.. its currently in an alpha stage, but its very community oriented and the developers take personal interest in everything people ask/request. right now all you can really do is build ships AND/OR space planes that can go into space or orbit the planet. in either .11 or maybe .12 the moon will be added so that we can fly to and land on or what ever you want to do. eventually there will be other planets added to the game, also the ability to build space stations to orbit the planet. there are all kinds of idea's that the developer is putting out there that he wants to do.

the downsides to the game is that its built on the Unity3D engine, which is a total piece of junk and has zero multi-threaded support. so if you build an insanely complex rocket the game will lag like hell. its perfered to play with an i5/i7 since it has the IPC performance on single threads.

there is also an IRC channel we use which is linked on the site above.(i'm in there 24/7 so if you have any questions feel free to come in and ask and most of us can help you/anyone. also Harvester(main developer of the game) comes in on week days)
 
Can someone help me find the HD mod or whatever it is that makes X3 look better? I've had this game for too long with out playing it.

I think I still have Privateer someplace, Privateer 2 also. I agree about Freelancer, such a good game.
