I was just at Circuit City in my area yesterday and this TV is $2199.00.

They also some other SXRD models for cheap too:

55" - $1469.56

60" - $1668.55

Edit - Just read on AVS forums that these orders will be cancelled-it's a pricing mistake. Sorry about that.

Edit 2 - No one seems to know if these prices are real. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=795517 People are calling Sony and getting conflicting reports.
 
Site down for maintenance...wonder if they're "fixing" it. I probably would have jumped at that price :D.

LOL damn!!! my dad just bought this TV 2 days ago, the 55".. He dropped $1999 shipped to the house, but they through in a nice glass stand for it too.... God would he have been pissed if they dropped the price 500 buxx
 
I've seen the 50" sxrd in various stores and in all cases the picture was far too soft. I'm not sure why, but it's not nearly as sharp as the bigger, higher end units (or the 50" 1080p from the competition).

Otherwise, I might have sprung for it as I don't deal well with dlp's characteristics. The larger sxrd's are really exceptional.
 
The 50 is also sharp, it just needs some tweaking on the settings out of the box.
