So how much more powerful does this make the PS4 versus the Xbox One now?

Sony did not release any official announcement about this, and the SDK itself is under NDA, so we should consider this as rumor, and take it with the traditional pinch of salt until an announcement is made. That said, it’s certainly promising.

Meant nothing when XB1 unlocked their 7th core means nothing for ps4 as well. Both systems initially reserved 2 cores the 7th and 8th for subroutines/os stuff, it's a cpu core not gpu.

Here's hoping that 7th core will smooth out the PS Store experience.

It is rather puzzling how badly the PS Store runs considering Microsoft had that down on the 360, which is much less powerful.

But yeah, one more core means nothing for current software. New games might be able to afford slightly more CPU power for physics or AI, but that's not going to solve the crippling lack of GPU power.

Might make a difference when you consider that PS4 uses modern memory where the XB1 uses yester years.

Pretty much this. Either you like consoles or you don't. Does it replace my PC, no. That said, I'm enjoying my PS4 just fine.

Let's face it - Sony probably just got hacked again this week thanks to Black Friday, aren't telling anyone about it, and are opening up the seventh core to provide realtime encryption of your credit card data.

We should all know about the data breach that happened yesterday - about two weeks from now. :D

while the console fanboys are busy rubbing one out at the thought of marginal increase in performance... I'll be over there playing some battlefield in 1440p maxed out buttery smooth :)

Pretty sure my Just Cause 3 is going to look hella sexier too :)

More puzzling is how fuck awful the XBone store runs. Well, less runs and more how it's designed and laid out. Pre and post W10 update. I honestly don't get why both of them failed so hard in their OS. Xbone is such a departure and is convoluted, PS4 attempted to evolve the XMB but failed in most ways.

Honestly the Wii U probably stuck the closest and improve the most between generations. Of course I'd say it was easiest to improve, their store still runs like ass, and they still can't get multiplayer games I might like. Whatever completely off topic.

Honestly can't see this being a bad thing at all really. More power is more power, haters gonna hate but at the same time it's not much different than having to have that gpu that gets you 1.3 more FPS average. More=better.

I'm in the group of I'll buy both console and pc cause the experience is unique enough to merit their own.

Remind me, isn't the jaguar CPU in the PS4 a lesser form of the cpu type that one guy is trying to start a cash-grabbing class action suit against AMD over?

Soo..., does it do anything? I'm not a console hater, I bought a ps4 for a couple of games I wanted to play, it would be great if the performance were a little better.

the dude was 100% technically correct though. you guys just have your panties in a bunch.

theyre just taking a cpu core away from the os and allowing devs to use it for games. game performance is not linearly affected by cpu cores, and allowing the use of an additional cpu core wont even linearly affect cpu performance by itself (due to programming and likely the cpu architecture as well). all in all, youre not going to see much in the way of gaming performance due to this change.

now, if they managed to get the gpu to run ~17% faster, that would be more exciting. not really that exciting, but itd help a lot more than going from 6 cpu cores to 7.

In my experience, servers make lousy gaming machines; especially since a lot of servers built in 2015 are still coming with Matrox G200s.

So you've never slapped a top end GPU in one and with running ECC ram (if available)? You get a fantastic stable gaming rig. I even have a HD7870 stuffed in my dual Xeon box.

You just have to use your imagination. G200 indeed.
