Sony GDM FW900 Setup Help - 1920x1200@120hz

Hello, I'm new to the forum, thanks for accepting me!

I just set up an FW900 that I purchased today, and managed to get these resolutions :
2560x1600@60hz
2304x1440@80hz
2048x1280@90hz
1920x1200@96hz
1680x1050@109hz
1440x900@126hz and-
-1280x800@140hz

I've seen people get 120hz on 1920x1200 though... is there something I'm missing in order for me to enable that ?
I came from an ASUS PG279Q at 165hz, so any extra refresh rate is welcome for me.

You cannot get 1920x1200@120 Hz. Max is 96 Hz. That is what I ran mine at since it matches the shadow mask.

Like Digital Foundry for example. In their CRT video, they mention the FW900 and ran Control (the game*) at 1920x1200@120hz
 
Honestly... I have no idea. I've been trying to find where I saw that, but I just can't find anything.
My mind must've somehow made that up, lol.
 
You could do it interlaced, that's only useful for low framerates like 30 or 40fps, where it has two or more refreshes to show the whole frame.

Your monitor has a finite horizontal frequency limit and a finite vertical frequency limit. You cannot go above either. Those are your limits. Horizontal frequency limit of FW900 is 121 Khz. Vertical freq limit is 160hz. Whichever you tap out first is your limit.

Example: 800x600 @ 180hz works out to be around 111 khz. Well within the 121khz horizontal limit of the monitor but - oops! Above the 160hz vertical limit. Back down to 160hz you go. :)

Same thing in reverse - 2304 x 1440 @ 120hz. Well within the vertical deflection limit of 160hz but damn - 172 khz horizontal. Way above the monitor's horizontal limit.

Etc, etc.

you probably meant this video which title is ""GDM-FW900 in 1920x1200 @120Hz"

i asked there a while ago how did they get the monitor to get that refresh at that res, i was answered that before a windows 10 update it was possible to achieve "1920x1200 @120Hz" according to that user, but i believe if that user was able to achieve that, was interlaced, something he did not mentioned in the reply, as other said, due to vertical - horizontal limits that is not posible progressive.

Maybe... but ye, interlaced makes sense.

There is also pixel clock limit 😉
