Hey guys. Im havingsome problems with my Sony DVD drive, for some reason it is stuck in PIO mode. I used to have a shitty 4x DVD burner, and i set that on PIO mode so it could work, but since i bought my 8x Sony DVD burner, i have set everything back to DMA where available, on boht the DVD-ROM and the Burner.

The burner is teh Secondary Master, and Rom drive the Secondary Slave.

In Bios ive got the entire secondary IDE channel set to Auto for DMA and Auto for PIO.

The only options i have for DMA is Enabled and Auto, but for PIO i have Auto, Mode 1, Mode 2, Mode 3, Mode 4, and iTHINK Mode 5.

My specs are as follows

Athlon 2500+@3200+ Barton Core
Soltek SL-NV400-L64
512mb Corsair DDR
128mb Sapphire Radeon 9600Pro
Primary IDE Master: 80gb Western Digital
Secondary IDE Master: Sony 8x DW-U18A DVD-RW
Secondary IDE Slave: Sony DDU1621

Does anyone have any idea why it wont go back to DMA mode? Im sure it used to be?

It is set to Auto in Bios and DMA Where Available in Windows.

Its really pissing me off, cos whenever i rip a DVD or make a CD Image, it takes forever, and uses ridiculous amounts of CPU power, Winamp skips like crazy...like a walkman with flat batteries.

Thanks in advance guys.

Device Manager. Then select "ATA/ATAPI controllers". Uninstall the channel it is on then reboot Windows. Windows will install the drivers again.
