Sony Demands Removal of Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal's "Intimacy Mode" on PS4

XSEED games has announced that their upcoming Senran Kagura Burst remake, Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal, will be delayed: Sony has demanded that its “intimacy mode” be removed, which allows players to undress and grope its female characters. The uncensored version will still be available on Steam.

This isn’t the first time that the western arm of Sony Interactive Entertainment takes action against this kind of content, as opposition from the house of PlayStation caused the western release of Omega Labyrinth Z to be canceled. Luckily for those wanting to enjoy the content removed from the PS4 version, the Steam version will be untouched and will launch simultaneously with the PS4 version with all the content intact.
 
Might be a good idea to replace the image on the front page. Put it behind a click or something, labeled clearly NSFW. I'd hate to come across that image when reading a tech blog in polite company. ;)

These games all seem odd in 2018 anyway. The publishers do realize that 13 year old boys, who I'd imagine is the target audience of these kind of games, have access to infinite free porn of any type imaginable, right?

How does a 13 year old even find cartoon partial nudity even exciting in the face of the internet?

These kind of games always feel like they came from 1997. Honestly, I'd be more upset from the one sidedness ( only girls) of the poor gameplay than the fact that a big part is fondling a character with disembodied Mickey mouse hands.
 
I honestly think this is the right call, to be honest. Most of the "grope" crap out there is basically training for assault. Also, if there's no guy in a g-string in this so-called "intimacy mode" then it's sexist too. ;)

Its only sexual assault if there is no consent. pretty sure this game is not implying lack of consent. ( obviously there are some games that probably go the route you are suggesting)

I play space combat/sim games almost exclusively. They don't tend to have actual characters.

I don't doubt more realistic animated porn/nudity would be directed towards older people but the children cartoon variety like this game is circa leisure suite Larry before 56k modems were common than 2018 fare.

At one time seeing ankles got people worked up in the West. We've evolved. By treating nudity and sex worse than violence, we are left with this talentless dribble to be exposed to. If it was treated more fairly, better talent would be involved in it's creation and we wouldn't be discussing this extremely skewed and sad view of sexuality expressed in this game.

There is plenty to be unimpressed with with this game. But the only thing censors are concerned with is body parts. Not ethics or content. As long as that is the case, the moral superiority of the censoring body is undermined along with the entire practice.
 
So Trump came up with the gameplay it seem, lost of fondling going on there, at a level i dont recall from my childhood.

What's funny is, in Japan, women still take the traditional demure / less dominate role. Even female business professionals. Also, even more creepy is Japan's "school girl culture."

There is a TON of this type of material coming out of Japan daily.

I promise you that in Japan, this is nothing to them.

Japan's concern here is what repercussions this could have in it's American markets and elsewhere in the world. They kinda want to nip this in the bud no, not later.

Not sure I'd go so far as to say grope crap is training for assault, but more like the poor women who get boyfriends/husbands who see this crap and think rubbing boobs super fast is "exciting", while this is not exactly a new thing either as the disconnect men have between porn and what REAL women want done to them is very real, this has become quite prevalent in Asian culture. I've known a handful of Asian women who have had guys try to try and "churn butter" with their hooch, now they didn't talk to me directly but through my wife I find out all sorts of weird/stupid crap dudes do.

That said, reminder to self to clear Youtube viewing history, I do NOT want any recommendations based on that video popping up for me.

Sony of Japan does not care about this. This decision is squarely Sony of America. SJW-types have successfully moved up the ranks and are now dictating company policy. The same thing happened with Nintendo of America and Treehouse censoring Fire Emblem and the like, except Nintendo wised up and cleaned house. Would not surprise me if some of those employees revolved right to Sony
 
I'm all for not getting on the snow flake - everywhere should be a safe place - bandwagon, but censorship of sexual content has been a US tradition since the pilgrims. It is the conservatives that this is being done for. It just happens to also overlap the movement of not objectifying women that is a hot topic with sjw's right now.

These kind of publisher decisions in video games is right in line with historic decisions, long before the sjw movement. This isn't a matter of bad sex is bad. It's that all sex is bad. That's not a sjw idea.

"Conservatives" did not push this current decision, no matter how hard you try to frame it that way. Past games in this series shipped intact. Games by western companies including sex ship intact. This isn't the 90s anymore, the moral outrage is dead, video games are not seen as a children's-only endeavour.

You do realize that this is nothing new, right? NOA has been censoring games since the fucking NES and Sony has a history of it as well.

I think you wildly overestimate the acceptance rate for this among the Japanese populace.

Most Japanese consider this trash fodder for shut-ins who are incapable of functioning in society. They consider its audience the sort of creepy fucknuggets who post pictures of jizz-covered plastic waifu figurines on 2channel.

The Japanese sales numbers for this game are on the order of 50k. Not Squeenix/Sony Interactive triple-a-blockbuster 5m+ numbers. Not Gust/Nippon-Ichi niche-but-quality-animu-game ~500k numbers. It's the numbers you expect out of pandery, otaku-bait garbage which only turns a profit because the special edition comes with some combination of half-naked figurine/titty mousepad/pair of character-themed panties.

Watched the video (because, research, ofc)

It was crass, but no worse than half the gags in any of the South Park games or GTA or any number of other published games.

That being said, I can also respect that Sony (or any other publisher) may not want that type of content on their console, and they have the right to disallow it without it necessarily being socialist censorship.
