Softbank selling ARM to Nvidia, finally after year of speculation...

It won't be blocked by China, if it is blocked, because they literally can't block it. They have no ownership claim to give them the authority to block it. All China can do is say "if this sale goes through we won't allow you to sell ARM in China anymore". That's all the power they have, an airing of grievances.
that's a lot of power tho, not selling in china is huge

And they won't follow through with that 'threat' if the deal still goes through. They hold no power here on this. China is caught between a rock and a hard place if they don't like it/don't give their blessing. They still need ARM chips for phones and devices for their billions of people - you couldn't just flip to an alternative in masse overnight - and new products are coming out constantly (more than annually) in this day and age, and they can't just make some Chinese counterfeit ARM without incurring more economic sanctions and retaliation. They are and can get fucked on this. They can voice their disapproval, but that's about it.

Eric,

I wouldn't call Renesas Electronics a major ARM licensee actually worth caring about, when all they make is microntroller-grade shit.

https://www.renesas.com/us/en/produ...ocessors/rz-arm-based-high-end-32-64-bit-mpus

I mean, you can't order anything more advanced than a Cortex A57 on this big RZ processor page. Sounds like a carbon-copy semi-custom company looking to magically be rebirthed through an architecture change. They are just another faceless semi manufacturer building lowest-cost offerings, with zero influence on the rest of the industry. If they actually cared about cutting-edge, try would have introed A55 plus something from the A70s by now!

This is just more over-hyped electronics news from the worlds most over-hyped tech insider.

Also, something this big this being reviewed by the UK is par-for-the-course for most other countries (unlike the US).
