is 754 not going to be around for long? I am just wondering if it is worth the extra $120 canadian to spend on an MSI K8N Neo2 board and an AMD64 3200+ 939 as supposed to an MSI K8N Neo plat and an AMD64 3000+ 754. The way I was thinking, was to use the extra money and get a kickass video card instead of the mobo and cpu. What do you all think?

754. Or 939, if you feel like you have and extra $120 to burn. You'll have to upgrade your board and CPU either way, right?

well I am building a new system and I was just wondering if going with 939 is worth the extra money, or use that money for a better video. I know that 939 would be the norm for the future......so upgrade for the future or for the current fun till 939 components drop in price?

Get s754. For now, it's much more cost effecient. If you go with s939, you'll need to upgrade everything anyway, so it's not any more "future proof" than s754 is. Besides, clock for clock, s754 clawhammers are outperforming s939 newcastles/winchesters, for example, 3700+ is actually a little better than a 3800+.

If I had to bet, his pricing was based on a newcastle. I would go with a Neo2 and a 3000+ if your into overclocking, otherwise stick to s754.

Yes. A pity they don't want to continue the A64 line on s754, a 3900+ would be most welcome :).

I agreed totally. I have had really good luck with my 3700+.

but technically, when people buy a new processor, they buy a new mobo as well...right?

so even if you move up to 939, when you want to upgrade, you may find urself buying a new mobo...

meh, idk, i guess it depends if you want to stay cutting edge or not

well cutting edge does cost a lot. Yes I am definatly buying a new board and a new cpu. I am building the machine from scratch. Well I have decided to save the $120 and put it into a 6600GT video card, and get myself an MSI K8N Neo plat with AMD64 3000+ socket 754. That should be a decent system that will last for like a year....hopefully

How much are you paying for that 3000+? Maybe I can sell you my 3200+ CH + Neo Platinum for cheaper.
