get rid of certain parts of pictures. For example, a navy shirt with a huge yellow emblem. How do I realistically "paint over" the insignia?

probably want to try the clone tool.

alt click part of the shirt you like. then click where you want gone.

i 82nd that :D ..... and another thing ... you can use extract if you want to get nice cutouts *as an alternate to the polygon lasso* by hitting ctrl+alt+X

you can also use layer masks that let you blend stuff on higher layers so it blends seamlessly if you use a radial fading brush on the mask ..... sorry for the runon sentence im lazy oops i did another one and it wont stop my name is johnny fred *putting the crack pipe down* ....

clone tool is really helpful, but i did a chop on genmay, and i didnt know what i was doing, i was removing a guy on a motorcycle out of the image, and i tried using the healing brush tool, and it worked out REALLY nicely for me. im a newb, so it looked pretty decent.
