So it seems...Might be wise to play the waiting game?

So trying to take in all the new information from AMD, and waiting to see what the 3rd parties do with cooling and fan solutions, along with the Nvidia price drops....also not to mention the bundles from Nvidia lead me to believethat it's maybe a mini waiting game? That may also be the longest sentence ever.

I'm running a GTX 570 right now, but want to start future proofing for all those next gen games coming out the pipe, but it seems smart to maybe sit on my hands for a week or a month? Thoughts on timing with an upgrade right now? Or at least put what you guys are planning into one thread rather than a lot of "Just got the xxxx"

I'm waiting, there's way too much going on for me. Currently on a 690 and only need to upgrade do to vram from surround. I want to see what mantle yields, the 780ti and all it's variants, the 290x reviews once 3rd party coolers come, and not to mention holiday sales. I actually would rather wait for maxwell but that may be a little too much waiting for me.

I recently moved from 1080p to 1440p so I know this 7870 won't cut it. Looks very likely that I'll be getting a 290 once the non-ref cards start coming out. Hard to carve out any time for gaming right now anyway so may as well wait for the holidays!

Waiting as well, but I'm a dumbass and sold my old card already.

Rocking HD3000 until this all settles out. Getting to play BF4 for 1 day on the 570 just makes the wait even harder.

Did I forget to mention that I bought a 760 then returned it and have a 770 arriving tomorrow that I have already submitted an RMA for... Yea

I'm waiting. I think by Thanksgiving the price changes will be have stopped by then and then it will only be holiday sales that may or may not alter pricing. So I can wait until BF and/or any other holiday sales during that time. I think this year the early buyers got a bit burned in the wallet.

I do suggest waiting a bit more. After the release of the 290, NVidia might respond by another price drop. The custom coolers should be out for the 290 series soon.

Definitely feels like a good time to wait for the waters to settle a bit. With how competitive the 290 performance is to both the 780 and the 290X, and prices where they currently stand, it seems probable that further 'adjustments' will be made.

This. I don't care about the heat as much as I do the noise and want to see how the custom coolers work out before I decide on which card to get. For the first time, I am seriously thinking about water cooling my video card. Also, after seeing the results from the 290x review 4k stitching 60hz together, thinking about going with a 50" Seiki rather than the Eyefinity setup I still have in boxes.

I've also just upgraded to a 1440p monitor so my GTX 680 is struggling a bit with BF4, but I think I can manage on medium settings for a little longer as I want to see what Maxwell brings to the table. My card runs most other games I play maxed out so as long as Maxwell really is Q1 next year I'll wait - unless I see a great deal during the holidays!

I'm on 7680x1600 Eyefinity using tri-fire HD6990/HD6950. I'd *LOVE* to go 290 to get the extra VRAM, but given the Phase 2 frame pacing driver hasn't been released yet I'm sitting on the fence and waiting for Maxwell and AMD's 22nm offerings H2 2014. I'm hoping the die-shrink will lower the heat output, but I'm concerned that they'll get into Intel's problem that the die surface becomes so small it becomes tough to cool the die.

If the AIB coolers prove successful *AND* the frame-pacing drivers for Eyefinity come out soon though I may not be able to resist and go 290 - that price is way too attractive to completely ignore.

Wait until the the amd cards come with better coolers at least. Personally, I'm never buying another leaf blower from amd or nvidia again.

waiting is the right move...don't overreact based on a single card...I have a GTX 580 and want to upgrade but am being patient waiting for all the price drops, new cards, non-reference cards, gaming bundles etc to be sorted out...Mantle benchmarks are also very important...this upgrade is important because of all the next-gen games...although we probably won't be seeing too many next-gen titles for 6-8 months after the new consoles hit

think about the people that overreacted and bought the Titan...or a 780...or 290x etc...the video card market is going through unprecedented upheaval right now

I agree, but also I'd be happy if I had a titan ;). It definitely doesn't feel like your run of the mill upgrade period. It's got a bigger scope with the new consoles, Mantle, and other things on the horizon. I think that's the point a lot of us are at when trying to make the call.

I will have a 290 someday! I'm current rocking my 6950 flashed to a 6970, getting caught up on some old games like the original Crysis... I'm actually on warhead right now.

Youll be waiting all your life, it doesnt end.

not really, we haven't seen nvidia new architecture yet; Kepler is like 2 years old, 780 TI will be the same old

so im inclined to wait til feb; the market is a mess atm

i'll wait also, unless the aib 290 could provide better cooling & not too much price difference

I've been saving my pennies for a while and was looking forward to either a 770 or a 7970 when the Black Friday sales came along. Now with the price drops from NVidia I'll be getting either a 780 or a non reference 290. I'm waiting to see what the non reference coolers do for the 290 regarding heat, performance and pricing. Either way I'm going to be looking at a big improvement over my 6970 twin frozr. Waiting is soooo hard!

I didn't wait, I waited long enough, just upgraded from a 5870.

I hate waiting but I'm trying my best. I'll also be upgrading from a 5870 but I want to see non-reference coolers and Mantle performance before I make a choice. Not really playing any games that require anything more at the moment anyway.

Add me to the group upgrading from 5870s. Guess it's that time.

I'm going with a 290, but will wait for non-reference models to come out since I'm not in any real hurry.

Edit: and maybe more importantly, Mantle will be released for BF4!

Ya'll can go ahead and wait. My 6970 was having a hard time with BF4, so I bought a 290. I have a custom WCing setup in my rig, so I wanted a reference design to make finding a waterblock easier. If something comes out later that everyone declares is the second coming....well, that's what the classifieds are for :)

Waiting for PC parts is stupid. There is ALWAYS going to be something better. And there is always going to be an eventual price drop. Buy it and enjoy it now, not tomorrow.

AMDs new cards are overclocking themselves to the max while maintaining a max temp of 95C.
We need to see these same cards with better coolers AND pitched against NVidia cards overclocked to the max or near max.
At the moment, its high clocked ATI vs low clocked NVidia, not a fair comparison imo.

The only game I care about right now is WoW and Nvidia still shits on AMD's face in that game. Guess that means I'm still good to go with my GTX680 SLI setup for now.
